Hey Doug(dtaylor), I like that set-up!, looks hell for stout.. I'm guessing the top rack can only be ran with the sides? top loading sidebags are the bomb.. I actually have three sets of luggage now, my 06' Uly came (from the PO) with the happy trails aluminum panniers and racks, with the top rack and plate that replaces the beavertail and grab handles(touratech? I forget..) anyhow, it was a bit agricultural for my needs, so I ordered the Outdoorsman bags and racks.. well, it ended up being backordered through HD/Buell for weeks, grrr.. during that time, my parts contact called me and said he had sourced the "last" set of genuine Buell Journeys with racks inventoried in the USA! I bought them too. Well, long story short they came first.. I installed em' and have ran them now for 6 months and they are just fine for my needs.. gotta be careful with the latches and they seem to be a bit flimsy but fit the bill fine so far.. I've been thinking of letting the Outdoorsman set-up go lately, as I'm starting to feel like a hoarder, lol |

Hey Tad, from everything I've read, the Fehling top rack can be installed on its own... Another good point for the Givis is that replacement bags are very easy to source, used or new -- especially the toploading E21's. And they make the bike that much easier to pick up! "from everything I've read, the Fehling top rack can be installed on its own" Looks like I didn't scroll down your pic. thread far enough, Doug.. I see now how it attaches! Yeah, looks like it would work with the journey racks fine.. hmm, got me to thinking now.. I never have been a fan of the factory top-rack due to the upper "hoop" and the way it droops down to the rear when the bike is loaded, just doesn't look right to me. Your fehling seems to have a better attitude/angle altogether.. dagnabit, I'm just too particular for my own good sometimes, lolol! Where did you source yours? |

I understand that the Fehling toprack requires some modification to work with the H-B side racks. I got my Fehlings from Twisted Throttle. (former?) BWB member Davalous posted these pictures and descriptions of his Fehling install: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/disc us.cgi?pg=prev&topic=142838&page=344155 |

XT and XP racks are NOT the same. There are some differences. XT racks 1. Mounts the bags closer together at the rear. 2. The lock for the bags to the rack are in front of the rack. The bags go on the rack backwards form the standard H&B configuration. In other words, a normal Journey right bag would mount on the left side of the XT rack. 3. Limited to mounting the Journey bags or shorter bags unless add in the XP rear turn signal relocation bracket. XP side racks: 1. Are further apart at the rear of the bike. 2. Comes with the rear turn signal relocation bracket to accommodate the longer bags. 3. Can fit most other H&B bags. 4. Bag to bracket lock is at the rear of the bike, in the standard H&B configuration XP side racks fits all standard H&B bags, including Journey and Outdoorsman |

Not trying to hijack this thread. From what I can tell is that there maybe a difference in racks from type of case i.e. journey or junior. If that is the case, then based on the fact that I am going to get some stainless cases, which rack should I get? What I stated regarding different cases for different racks came from the beginning of this thread. Thanks for any input. Druelly |

"the Fehling toprack requires some modification to work with the H-B side racks" Yup, your right Doug.. I did some due diligence on the mounting interface with HB side-racks & it's definitely a "no easy-go".. crud, I had high hopes. A guy would have to get fairly creative to make it work and have it retain structural integrity. At least the top-rack is still available from twisted throttle, but not exactly a bargain at 225+ ship.. |

Druelly, the happy-trails racks are designed for universal panniers.. they are super sturdy and accept the "puck" mounts well.. if you get your panniers non pre-drilled you can position them for-aft to your liking. |

I have a used set (some scratches too!)of the Journeys...with side racks. No top box or rack. $350 includes shipping continental US. It was my first set for my Uly then I found a full meal deal. That was a grand. |

Thumper, thanks for the reply. Now another question. You lost me at happy trails. Are those the racks that came on stock XT? I thought H&B were the racks. Thanks again |

Thumper can you send me some pics. Dualsport2012 @ hotmail.com I really lime the gobi boxes. What racks are compatible with them and do I have to have to modify the turn signals. |

Will the factory top rack work with the gobi top box? |

Pics sent.. Take a good look at the gobis before you commit to a set, they are double walled and not exactly space efficient.. IMHO |
