Hello all! I am considering a c/f piece or two. Has anyone done it? Was there any real weight savings? What brand did you use? What pieces did you buy? Are you happy with the mod? Etc., etc., etc. Thanks and ride safe. Mark Never Give Up! |

Carbon is a very expensive way to performance. You will gain more performance by loosing a few pounds of yourself than by switching out all your plastic to carbonfiber. However, if its just the look you are after, then by all means go for it!! |

I purchased and installed the Carbon Fiber Frame sliders that were made by Trojan Horse. Thankfully, I havent had to use them yet.<knock on wood>. All the other stuff looks like cosmetics to me |

Its all cool stuff but its not very sun friendly the rays make it lose its color over time and turn a brownish color. |

Its all cool stuff but its not very sun friendly the rays make it lose its color over time and turn a brownish color. Unless its the pieces Buell sold which were blue in color. Those turn a sickly looking green after awhile. |

Mine were all Buell but the dash.Mine looked ok but the dash turned brown.Keep a quality polish or wax on them and it will extend there appearance for awhile. |

Steviejay01, click on my profile and you can see a pic of the trojan frame sliders on my 9r. Guess I learned something today. I didn't know the CF stuff faded or turned colors when it gets old. Probably cause I haven't been around sportbikes longer than 2 years... Is it UV that fades it?

UV not only fades it but effects the strenght as well, on Aircraft ALL carbon fiber has to be painted to keep its strenght.... I have no idea how much damage is done over time but boy does Boeing make a BIG deal about keeping the surfaces painted.... |

Noface it may help that if you park your scoot in a shaded area and out of the direct sun when the bike is sitting foe extended time will help.It helped mine on the Hybrid. |

I've owned my own paint and body shop for 13 yrs, I would be glad to help any of you guy's if you need pointers or info!!! KEVIN |

Thanks. Undecided on the c/f. The 'ol XB9er lives in the garage except when I ride (which is only about 2000 miles/year now). If I did spend any money on c/f, I would keep it polished though. You know, all the c/f pieces on Airbus A319/320 series airplanes are painted. Never gave it much thought on my walk around until now. Maybe I'll sink the dough into that Doo-catty in the garage. Did you know "Ducati" is Italian for beautiful, high performance red piece of shit,uh, I mean art? Yeah, "art". Mark Never Give Up! |

That beautiful S1W I bought brand new in 1998 complete with Race Kit. The nickel plated frame came later. You're looking at a rather old pic though. She doesn't quite look like that at the mo. As from Monday she looks like this......... But not for much longer I hope Rocket |

Rocket... droool.... that is going to look SOOOOO cool! Get it together! Get it together! KDS1... how much to repaint a black M2 tank? And can you "patch" a scraped up area without repainting the whole tank and replacing stickers? Or does it just make more sense to just start fresh and give it a full clean paint job?

I have a completely carbon fiber and purple S-1 that was painted by the Buell factory in 1996 and it was GORGEOUS. I'll see if I can find some pics sometime. If you think you are buying carbon fiber for any reason beyond cosmetics you are mistaken. But, I confess to having spent thousands to "look good". Hmmm..looking in the mirror, I think I need to spend more.

Nope, no mistake. If I spent the huge bucks on Ducati c/f for my 748, I could dump about 20 lbs.(airbox, runners, body work, etc.). However, on the buell, it would probably only save me a few ounces or so. It would just be for the looks of it. Thanks again all. Ride safe. Mark Never Give Up! |

Personally, I would never buy any of the stuff. I did put a piece on that I won as a door prize. Was really disappointed at the fit and finish. Really glad I didn't pay for it. |

All the bodywork carbon on my Big Buell is Buells own carbon and it is as good today as it was when I bought it (except for the damage I caused to the front hugger and chin spoiler) and it is really nice quality carbon too. One advantage the carbon front hugger and fly screen have over the stock painted items is they don't stone chip. My original black front hugger was a mess from road rash within a few short months of ownership of the Big Buell. Mind you I did get involved in a lot of close combat with R1's and Gixers <grin> Rocket |
