I have found that the Hid conversion I put in my Uly has torched the reflective material off the low beam lamp reflector . Looks like it could not take the heat of the Hid bulb running all the time. My question is... Can you buy a reflector assembly ? I have been hunting Ebay and Craig's list looking for a used lamp assembly with no avail. Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance |

The hid's typically run cooler than a normal bulb, I'm surprised that this happened. Wonder if the enclosure had a over power filament bulb in the past... |

Didn't they have a recall on the reflector? |

Rays, thanks for the link, I put a bid in on the lamp, Now I need to see how popular those parts are. Reepicheep, I thought that was the case also, I have found out through one of the other bike forums I belong to; that BMW's and Goldwing's are having the same problems. Both those companies have replacement reflectors available. I am going down to the dealer and finding out what parts are available from the Motor Co. |

Great news; I was able to order a new assembly from HD. The really good news is the price has dropped to $115 from $147 and it is in stock in Milwaukee, So one is on its way. I will not be running a Hid in the low beam, I will put a H7 back in. As for a recall, that applied to another model. http://tinyurl.com/2egflbr Click the link for pictures of the headlamp burn. Thanks for the help guy's |

The stock bulbs can melt the reflectors too. Nothing new. |

Is anyone aware of places that can re- chrome/ plate the headlamp reflectors? |

Replating? Yes. There is a reputable shop in Orange County, CA that replated my Firebolt headlight when fading reflector plating became a widespread issue. I didnt have to use it tho because warranteed replacements became available for a limited time. |

Cool at least there is a place. I would be interested because new assemblies are over $100 per headlamp. I don't want to use some unknown shop off of google. If you get a chance could you post up the shop in Orange County? Not sure if i want to re-plate it or use a Hella light conversion. |

OK, I found it... Classic Components in Santa Ana Tell you what. If this is for a XB9R, I'll sell you my replated XB9R headlight assy complete (altho it's in parts) that I haven't used yet for $20 plus shipping. I don't need it any more but I'd kinda like to know how it fares being put back in service. Wouldn't you? |

Thanks Sparky. I'll keep that business in my file for future projects. I'll send you a PM about that lamp for my XB9R. |

I acquired a low beam headlamp assembly from a fellow BadWebber and seems to be a good replacement. I have pictures below comparing the old with flaked off chrome and the new with re-plated reflector. I'll update after tonights night ride...

Well I got the new low beam installed on the bike. It works great compared to the old one. I was able to save my headlamps without spending lots of moolah on a new assembly. Thanks Sparky! I have before and after pictures of the low beam headlamp with the old flaked off low beam reflector compared to the new re-plated low beam reflector. So now I will do a durablity test on the re plated reflector over the year to see if it can handle the standard H3 bulb. I have pictures below of the old and new against my garage door. I couldn't get pictures of the beam comparisons on the road because they didn't turn out on the camera. original low beam with flaked reflector:
