oil was castrol 15-50 semi syntetic, speed around 100km/h aoud 65-70 mp/h revs around 3000 case has a hole the size of a golf ball, fronnt piston lower wings broken, stangly the front cylinder is fine and the rear is shot.

so my way to get this sorted out over her ein Spain is find a whole bike and change the parts i want to change and then sell the rest.

That would have been telling you it wasn't happy for some time but it's sometimes hard to pick if you're not used to listening for it.
here's a pic of a mate of mine's GSXR1000 that did the same thing. It had a slight noise in it for a while and I told him to strip it a few months before hand..

My first thought upon seeing that first picture was 'how much boost were you running?'

The noise was normal in a strech of less than half a mile the noise changed slightly then i heared the bang, pulled the clutch and stopped at the side of the road, the front pistón lower flanges also were broken, i rodé the bike less than 500 miles before this happened so i guess i was just learning to ride it.

So now i have a long term project to find a good X1 to change the body work, headers, muffler, lights, sherlock and a few bits, and i'll sell all the parts that i'll spare to get back some money.

FYI ALL NEW TUBER OWNERS

Search the KV for info on oil pump gears
there is a known issue with them shedding teeth into the pump with the resultant damage

There was is a bronze gear that was introduced in '06 to help the XB bikes correct this problem it can be fitted to the older tuber XL style engine

sorry to see this

The XB engines also have a better oil pump than the BMC -98(HD-90A) oil pumps ...

Yes, Arizona Buell, the newer bronze XB gears will fit the earlier motors. Oil pump I'm not sure on as I havn't done that one yet.

I seen a couple of failures in recent years and funnily enough all were running lightweight synthetic oil... I have never seen this failure on a motor running the Penrite heavy Diesel oil that we use over here. Including my own sporty motor which has had 100's of passes down the strip at full noise.

here's a pic of a new late model bronze bush compared to a worn stock S3 bush, look closely at the wear on the gear on the right. This was from a low mileage motor that had been running top shelf low viscosity synthetic oil all it's life.. Fortunately this was caught during a motor freshen up but it wouldn't have lasted much longer.

It had the bronze oil pump drive what i found was a few pieces of metal and a bigger one that was from the wings of the front piston that i guess when the rod blew it broke the piston wings.

Harley motors use roller bearings, that don't require a lot of oil like car type bearings.
i could not say what caused this but looks like the male rod has broke. then came free & hit something hard to cause it to get that flat look. i've had a few cracked pistons over the years. road a shovel that had a cracked piston for years that caused it to wet sum, found it out when pulled it down. they were cast pistons. then had the piston skirt crack on a set of Wisco forged pistons on a 95 inch twin cam, found it when i put custom design JE pistons in. so i was lucky.
you can get away with it if you just ride normal not too hard. then one day you give it some revs make it work a bit harder & the crack in the piston lets you know its there big time, if it's a top crack you will know if its cracked at the skirt & breaks off anything could happen. my friend rebuilds Harley flywheels, last year i saw three EVO big Twin that had broken the crank pin. then i saw one motor the guy bought a softail 80 inch EVO in to rebuild the motor, when my friend took heads off, could see pistons had been hammering at the heads, then got motor appart & there was no roller bearings left they had warn compleatly away nothing there, so the pistons had slammed into the heads. there was nothing left to rebuild everything was totaled.

Totally unrelated but....We had a tractor that broke the piston skirts, wedged the piston and pulled the rod off the crank. It looked like it was set up a little tight and had some scuffs, etc. on the cylinder. I would not rule something like this out on your engine. Just be thankful your bill is not the same as the tractor. We managed to save the head and injection pump on that one...the bill was about 8k with me doing all the labor and buying a used crank and block. The dealer wanted 4k for JUST the crank, LOL.

Is it me or is that rod discolored from heat?

yes, Nate, that's normal for that situation. That usually only happens when the material has been softened considerably by heat..
I've seen one sticking out of a set of cases and it was glowing bright red..

What I find interesting is that the bottom of the rod body isn't discoloured. It looks like the failure was very quick, possibly from an oil pump drive gear failure but I can't give an accurate diagnosis off a couple of pics, would need to see the rest of the engine.
