Well, I'm starting on my new project. A 1999 Buell M2 Cyclone with just a little over 9k miles on her. I am going for a mix between the old school cafe racer look and the modern streetfighter look. I have already done some of the things mentioned in Phase 1 before I started tearing it down. Phase 1: Replace everything that is worn or is known to give out (isolators, belts, bearings, etc.- a very long list) Remove lots of unneccessary parts (rear hugger, heat shield, belt guard, etc.) Mikuni HSR-42 carb (done) Vance and Hines SS2R muffler (done) Carbon Fiber HanCam cover and K&N filter (done) Bronze shifter/brake bushings (done) Powdercoat frame and other small parts (thinking red anodized) Ducati Monster seat and seat cowl(done-just reupholstered by HT Moto=INCREDIBLE WORK) LED tail light with integrated signals (done-Buell/Duc Monster tail lights are one and the same) LED front signals/LED flasher relay (done) HID headlight kit (done) KG GunKote Black Chrome the heads, and side cases of the motor, gas tank cap, lower fork legs, triple trees, etc. Wheel stripes New SHOWA rear shock (done) Buell Billet Traction footpegs (done) Billet brake/clutch levers (done) Home Paint Job (thinking dark grey with 4" black stripe offset by a red pinstripe on either side) Lots of polishing of bolts and other pieces AND quite a few other things I just can't come up with right now Phase 2: GSXR complete front end with dual rotors VROD Headlight (lose the fly screen) Small digital speedo/tach Custom Paint Here is a picture of what it looked like before the teardown (not mine, just a google picture of the same bike as I forgot to take before pics), luckily this bike has low miles, has been garaged it's entire life, and has only had 2 owners both which took meticulous care of it (one was an aircraft mechanic, the other has built custom harleys since the 60s):  Here is some pictures after a few hours of teardown (crappy iPhone pictures, will upload digital camera pictures later once I have made more progress):   Here is a picture of my Ducati Monster seat. Just got it back today, it is a one off custom done by HT Moto, there work is top notch. The seat looks 10x better in person than in the pictures (stitching looks like it is off in the pictures and the color doesnt look right). It is done in a black waterproof suede with a double stitched checkering and the other parts are done in a black carbon fiber material. The monster seat cowl will cover the back half of the seat when I don't have a passenger on the bike.  Thats all for now folks, I will continue to add pictures of the progress. Color scheme plan: The frame and various other small parts are going to be powder coated in a Red Anodized color For the initial paint scheme (done by me at home), the plan is a matte gray with a 4" black stripe down the center offset by a small red pinstripe on either side. The gray and black will be matte and the red pinstripes will be vinyl and glossy to make it really stand out. The frame and other small parts. Once I accumulate some more funds and go on to Phase 2 of the build, I plan on shipping my bodywork out and having some top notch paint done in some sort of silver/black or gray/black scheme. I am going to use red wheel stripes on the wheels and possibly some kind of decal on the swing arm as well. All are going to be made from the same company and out of the same material so they match. Might put some kind of decal on the lower fork tubes and rear pulley as well. The engine side cases and heads are going to be done in black chrome. I plan on leaving some chrome on the bike such as the pushrod tubes, clutch cover, etc. For the swingarm I still havent decided if I want to do it black, red anodized with the frame, or polish it. If I do it red I am thinking about putting some kind of black decal on it, and if I do it black I will put some kind of red decal on it. I'm thinking the Buell Pegasus logo would look cool, getting mirror decals done so the head starts at the front of the swingarm and it narrows to the wings as the swingarm narrows at the rear. Here is a picture of the Pegasus logo I would use (just the pegasus, not the rest of the image)  Here is a picture of a Buell done up with a somewhat similar paint scheme to what I want to do although its matte black/candy metallic red with some super gay flames:  Here is a few other bikes done with similar paint schemes, the last one (a buell tuber as well) is more of a maroon but you can get an idea of the scheme with the swingarm done as well:    | ||

be careful as bought some red anodized items in the past and they faded to pink, I was not happy as that was not the look I was going for. | ||

be careful as bought some red anodized items in the past and they faded to pink My experiences with anodizing are two-fold: 1. Anodizing only works best on a billet surface. On a cast surface, the anodizing will appear blotchy. There might be some (of the better) forms of casting that may produce a decent part, but the cast parts I got anodized in the past made me turn to powdercoat to coat them with color. 2. Anodizing does fade in sunlight. My S2's front caliper was anodized black when PM produced it. However now, it almost looks like it's got no anodizing on it at all. My 2 cents (points)... 1313 | ||

That's actually my grandparents old house, it's for sale so we have some stuff stored in the garage. Guys, I should have been more clear. I am not getting anything anodized, I am getting it powder coated in a color that looks like red anodizing. Thanks for the tips on anodizing though. Pikeben, I saved that pic a few weeks ago. Be careful with vynil on the tank it may bubble! I had alot of my stuff matte and loved tge look but was not fun to clean! Ever think of silver leaf or copper for the tank? | ||

S1ownwer, how is silver leaf or copper applied? I have had no bubbling with my paint but I am probably going to seal it before I paint it. I know the pain with keeping up matte paint, it is just meant to be a temporary paint job til I accumulate the funds to have it shipped off and have someone do a very custom paint schrme on it } | ||

It is a very thin foil that you put an adhesive down then push pieces into it it is very cool google it its old school would look great with pin strips. I think they make a vynil to mimic it. | ||

thinking of the same thing....ducati red frame...possibly black out the front forks and swing arm. s2 frame. color of wheels? front cover of cafe racers, or classic motorcycles had a cool norton with a red frame and chrome cafe racer tank. rex | ||

Redstang, that is actually very close to what I am going for with a different seat/tail and different shades of colors. I actually just found out I have a check coming my way so I might go ahead and do the front end swap and VROD headlight and gauges as well. Updated pics, got it all torn down and the swingarm and all off as well. Started doing my fab work and mock up. I cut off some of the rear subframe to shorten it down and am gonna have a 1/4" steel plate CNC'ed and welded on to the back to be a taillight backing plate. Also removed the steering lock and am gonna weld the hole up. Gonna be going to the fab shop today to get the rest of the fab work done. I'm gonna skin part of the subframe where the old tail mounted and hide my electronics in there as there is a recessed spot in the underside of the ducati seat that will fit them off then I am gonna cut/grind all the tabs off the right side of the subframe to clean things up. I also cut the tabs off the right upper side of the swing arm, havent decided if I am gonna cut off the lower ones too or leave them and fab up some kind of better looking lower belt guard. Im leaving the one at the front of the subframe where the hugger mounted and going to make a little license plate bracket to attach to it so I can hide my plate up under the bike out of the way       -spencer- | ||

Thanks! Yes the seat fits perfect around the stock tank the way it is. The duc seat has some large plastic hooks that slide into the frame on them to hold the seat in place. I cut them off with a dremel and thats the only modification thats been done as it sits in the picture. Gonna mount up a metal tab from an old factory m2 seat to the duc seat and use the factory mounting methods. The duc seat has a threaded insert in the back so all you need is a screw to go through the flat piece in the subframe to hold it in place in the rear. Very easy swap, I cut the rear swingarm so I could flush mount the taillight up as tight and neat looking under the seat. | ||

This may have been addrssed but does anyone have any suggestions on where a guy could get an m2 street fighter exhaust? Bub made one I liked but I can't find it anywhere. Thanks guys, Kilroy- no worries I'm 24 and do the same thing all the time. If I had an S1 I wouldnt really have a reason to be cutting up the back and doing a seat swap as they are already lean and looks good. But the monstrous M2 tail and seat just looked awful to me so it had to go. I thought about an S1 tail swap but I like to make my toys as unique as possible plus my girl would kill me if I went to a solo seat (and the twin tail S1 doesnt look near as good to me as the single seat) -spencer- | ||

Rsm688, what year/model ducati monster seat are you using? I'm interested in getting a 1999 M2 like yours and that is the only issue (the tail). | ||

its from a 2006 S4R, although for the monsters the seats are all the same from like 2003-2007ish (somewhere in that range I dont remember exactly) | ||
