Toasted my stator *some*, did the EBR stator mod. But stuck in heavy heavy traffic yesterday, bike hot enough the harness drops voltage down in the high 11's I knew I was in trouble, but had to get fuel. I did ride about 15 miles and got some rpm going, but she was till too hot to get much over 12.2 v Wouldn't even turn at first, but was able to get it started. Oh what fun!! Roll the dice - run out of gas or risk not restarting! So should I pull the harness? (Message edited by sprintst on December 05, 2012) |

If you have the ebr modified rotor and a higher temp rewind then you shouldn't need the harness any more. It sounds like either your relay fried or your stator did. I would either replace your relay or remove the harness. |

I wish I knew the right answer. Maybe test the stator and see what volts it is putting out. If it is charging too low, but still charging and actulally increasing output with increasing RPM you may have lost a leg as Bextreme04 suggested. That is exactly how my bike acted when I shorted out only one leg and still had 2 legs charging normally |

I tested the stator before doing the EBR fix. Results below. The stator has some (not all) brown arms, but nothing blackened. Also some a bit milky, like they have cracked insulation and oil got in. Works fine when engine temps don't get over about 180, then the voltage starts to drop. I've put on a several thousand miles since the "fix", and I've noticed a few minor issues, this traffic mess really stressed it. But we also aren't into summer temps yet Testing results: • battery voltmeter test - good • milliampere draw test - don't have the Harness Test Kit to perform • Total Current draw test - no accessories, don't believe this was needed • Current and Voltage output test - don't have the Harness Test kit to perform • Stator check - no continutiy, passed • AC Output test, cold - passed • AC Output test, hot - passed (Message edited by sprintst on December 05, 2012) |

If the stator is outputting proper AC voltage but you have high 11 low 12 volts while riding then you most likely have a bad relay in the charging harness. Try putting a new one in and see what happens. |
