I'm outfitting my S3 with lowers because I want the bike, with it's already hugely wide-assed saddlebags, to be even more cumbersome to maneuver around in a garage full of bikes. I have a couple of questions about mounting the fairings. First, on the right side, the bracket that mounts to the underside of the the airbox - are there metal-sleeved rubber grommets that go in the holes on the airbox? Or were they perhaps threaded wellnuts? Second, on the left side lower, I see that the top of the fairing hooks over top the frame tube beneath the tank and that the lower mounting point is the aluminum clamp that grabs a diagonal frame tube. But I can't tell how the aluminum clamp attaches to the bracket that is riveted to the fairing. Is there another piece that connects the two? And is it advisable to drill out those rivets and get some better hardware to connect the bracket to the fairing? I'd appreciate any guidance or pics you may have. Thanks folks. | ||

Thanks for the confirmation of that suspicion. Unbelievably, I found wellnuts threaded 1/4-20 in our hardware store that fit the airbox holes perfectly. Finding anything that works perfectly on this island is, well, . . . . not so common. Now if anybody can describe to me how the left side lower attaches to the clamp on the diagonal frame tube, I'll be on my way. Thanks again. | ||

Frame clamp.  Fairing mount,I modified after it started to crack,added strap over crack then made strap to go from frame clamp to strap over crack and drilled the hole at end of crack to stop it from further cracking.  That's a lot of crack in one sentence,lol. | ||

If you have the rubber/metal factory clamp, there's a bolt that you use to tighten it to the frame. That same bolt goes through the fairing support. Bolt head - fairing support - clamp half - other clamp half - nut. | ||

This is awesome. Thank you JRamsey and Mr. Rat. The manual's exploded view was showing something like an insulated hose hangar/strap and I tried one. Using one of them leaves the lower fairing with way too much movement. It was pretty clear that about one ride of moderate length was going to lead to bad things. Obviously the long bolt through the frame clamp has some sort of aluminum spacer that I can fab. Thanks again, guys. Big help. | ||

Right side lower may crack.
