I just had a rewind done by Rick's and after about 1000 miles the stator relay has blown. I never had a problem with relays before the rewind but I know they use better wiring etc. Should I bypass the wiring harness fix since it is rewound with the better stuff or leave it and just replace the relay. I blew through two headlights till I figured out it was the relay and don't want to be buying headlights and relays every thousand miles. Bike is a 09 1125CR. |

I don't know the schematic off the top of my head, but I don't think the relay working or not working should ever cause an over voltage condition. Only the voltage regulator (or associated connections) could do that. |

Well then I may have two problems cause the relay is burned up. My dash lights went out and got froze but never came back on till I turned the bike off and turned it back on. It didn't come back at idle like it does with people with regulator problems. Still would like to know if I should run the harness fix with the relay if I had a higher grade rewind. |

Did you get the EBR rotor when you rewound your stator? EBR stator and rewind may survive without the relay. may not. Leave the harness connected and be ready to replace the relay on a regular basis. Sounds like R/R is bad, the over-voltage at breakdown took out the relay and possibly some lights. 12 volt devices are cool with 14V but usually not something in excess of 18V. Zack |

I didn't get the rotor since I had just spent a ton of money rebuilding my XB I barely had enough left over for the rewind. I had just got the CR so wasn't really expecting the stator to go so quick. I removed the harness and everything runs perfect again. No dash cutout and running at 14V pretty constantly. The rotor is in my future probably next season sometime. I think I'll run it without the harness until it does it again and then I'll start looking at the voltage regulator. |

Since you are having a overcharging issue ,unhook your charge update relay. Help keep the voltage down till you replace your regulator....... I am running with stock rotor and stator, no relay and with 18000 miles on the clock. |

Why would I replace the regulator if everything is running fine without the relay? You said you got 18000 miles and everything is good. If I go 18000 miles and everything is good then I will assume the regulator is not the problem and it was the harness mixed with a better rewind. |

Fine for me may not be fine for you. All my lights are LED. Headlight is 35w HID. I do not ride with high beams on all the time. I do not have issues with low charge without relay. Try it and let me know how it works for you. Keep an eye on your voltage. |
