Ok, My 2004 Buell Blast starts up great, the auto choke comes on, the bike revs up, and and then comes down to idle. the idle is a slow thumping sounds normal. the bike will then cough and lose power for a second, and if I'm at a light I may have to rev it to keep it alive. BUT! once Ive ridden a ways and the bike is fully warmed up, the idle will increase as Im coming to a stop, and remain high while Im stopped. once I get going again everything seems fine. Also my top speed seems to be limited 70 is about it.

I'm going to start with the boot today, but wanted some opinions before I started,

EZ, thanks for responding, I stumbled across that possible solution last night, I noticed the primary adjuster still has the spacer in it at 3400 miles.

I'm still new to motorcycle work, how do i get the spacer out? do I take the screw all the way out or pry it off somehow?

Ok I figured out the spacer will slip off after loosening the jam nut. but do you guys think that too tight a primary would cause the high idle, or is that a das boot problem, I have one on order and will replace it anyways, just wondering.

also I want to change the primary fluid, I have read, the easiest way is to pull the plug, drain the fluid, replace plug and use the vent tube up under the seat to put the new quart of synthetic oil in. Am I correct?

The top speed issue is probably the primary.

A high idle can happen for a variety of reasons. The intake boot developing a leak is one possible reason. Another may be any intake or exhaust modifications you've made resulting in a change in airflow efficiency. When I did my exhaust & intake mods, and rejetted the carb, I had to re-adjust the idle speed and idle mixture a couple of times.

If you haven't rejetted the carb, there's a very good chance you can't adjust the idle mixture as the idle mixture screw is covered by a plug you have to drill out.

Thanks guys, still waiting on my boot, But I'm gonna adjust the chain today, and I also found a "nipple" on the side of the carb that did not have a cap on it, and the breather vent hose near the left foot peg is not capped either, so I'm gonna cap those and keep going from there.

the breather hose near the foot peg needs to be left open. It is the vent for the gas tank.

The extra nipple on the carb needs to be closed off. It only exist because of the california crap.

I am guessing as soon as you plug the nipple, the bike will run right.

ok cool! I saw picture of the two hoses near the left foot peg, one is the oil and the other the Vent hose I'm assuming, they were both capped, but I will leave it open.

I hope capping the nipple fixes it, that would be awesome!,

I'm having the exact same symptoms on the wife's bike. The links that EZ posted don't work anymore. Is there anywhere else those instructions exist?
