At least a couple of people have posted that they traded earlier Ulys (2006/2007) for later Ulys (2009/2010) and found the newer headlights to be much better. AFAIK the part number for the headlight assembly never changed so we've always wondered what (if anything) is different about the newer headlights. This past weekend I was at the AMA races in New Orleans at NOLA Motorsports Park and noticed a 2010 Uly parked next to the EBR team trailer (apparently the bike belongs to the rig driver). I took the opportunity to photograph the headlight up close and then came home and took a photo of the one on my 2007. As far as I can tell, there is no difference in the shape or design of the reflector or lenses between the two headlights. The chrome on the reflector, especially on the low beam, is showing signs of deterioration on my 2007. The entire reflector on the 2010 looks noticeably shinier. I'm not sure if that's just due to 5.5 years of age (and probably some dirt) on my Uly or if the chrome was improved on later headlights. Anyway, here's the photos for comparison: 2007 2010

Interesting- I thought they were all the same P/N. Which still begs the question- what, if anything, are the differences? |

The bulbs are also the same part number. Stock 2008 lights are not good............ |

+1 "2008 lights not good" This has always baffled me. My X1 with ONE bulb has better lights than my new 2008 bike's lights. I added a lightbar and two 55W halogens and it fixes the issue. I always hated that one is always out in the stock configuration. They should both be hi/low. |

From what's been posted here it's the 2009/2010 headlights that are markedly better than earlier versions. The only obvious difference I see in the 2007 and 2010 lights above is the chrome looks much shinier on the 2010, but is that just due to age or was the plating improved in 2009 and is that enough to make the headlight noticeably better? Well, hopefully the EBR AX when it's released will have "headlights from hell" and they'll retrofit to our Ulys. |

Both of my 08 (X & XT) have the chrome plating on the reflector faded and flaked off. I solved the lighting issue by changing the bulbs to HID |

"From what's been posted here it's the 2009/2010 headlights that are markedly better than earlier versions." When I got my 2010 bike I noticed the lights looked better but just thought it was "shiny new bike syndrome". They are however a little bit better and its not age as I had both the 06 and 2010 bikes at about 18 months old. "I always hated that one is always out in the stock configuration. They should both be hi/low." Yes they are better with both on switched to high beam. Maybe its a safety thing. Both on could make you look like a car a long way away. |
