So, out of the blue, when I switch on high beam, both bulbs pop. I have the both lamps on high mod. Any ideas where I might start looking? Thanks | ||

My high beam just blew, but I didn't hear a pop or anything, it just blew. I too have the both lamps on high mod. My battery was going bad, so I just replaced my battery and went ahead and replaced both bulbs all at the same time. | ||

Oh, Oh, I got you beat. Get off work early tonight. 10:30 PM, Light rain, Rolling down the road, Voltage goes to 17 and sits there. Low beam pops. In a brain dead moment, instead of cracking the throttle open with the clutch in to make the VR drop the voltage, I switched to the high beam, instant flash bulb and it is dark. 15 miles in the rain in the dark to get home. I need to replace my VR before I spend more in bulbs than it costs. Police car went by me in the opposite direction. I kept trying to figure out why he didn't flip on me. At home I jumped off the bike and left it running so I could see what the officer saw. My bike has a bulb in the middle socket between the headlamps. I put a green one in there a couple of years ago. Looks like both headlamps are on with a lack of voltage. I was amazed at how bright that little bulb is in the dark. I rode at about 10 or 15 under the limit until a car would pass me, then sped up and rode behind them. | ||

Wish I had some backup driving lights. Usually I carry a spare bulb, but had used it last week. | ||

I strongly suggest installing one of those kuryakin voltmeters. I have run one for the past 20,000 miles or so and it really adds to my peace of mind when running heated stuff and additional lights. | ||

So, it looks like the Voltage Regulator can be an issue. I've got about 40k on the bike. What is the recommended replacement? Thanks | ||

Not yet, I keep buying gas and light bulbs. It is in my shopping cart at Al's place waiting for funding. Really need to do that. | ||

Guybones, I see you have an '06. So do I and I experienced a similar bulb popping issue earlier this year. I removed/replaced the #77 connector and things have been fine since. Search that topic in Knowledge Vault and give it a shot. Inexpensive fix. Frank |
