The last couple of rides and the timing has been all over the place and it has had the odd "miss" on hard throttle as well. I have just checked it with TunerPro and the air temp sensor is saying 55C (132F) with the ambient air temp at 14C (57F). At 41C out (checked with a Pro digital meter) I think there may be a problem, LOL. That or I have just moved to the Sahara desert and not noticed it any. The bike DOES NOT like it much at all.  This may not be the only problem but look at it this way. You would have no chance AT ALL of finding it without a diagnostic prog like TunerPro so think on that one. This sort of thing will NOT show up on the CEL either which is why it is such a waste of time/space and misleading to say the least. All Hail the Tunerpro. I just love it to bits. Thank you Guys. i moved my AIT under the fly screen gives a more realistic reading. On my X1 it was also moved there and cored alls sorts of problems it had. | ||

I disagree with putting the sensor away from where the intake is. Having said that, every time my X1 has thrown an intake air sensor code, I have found it either unplugged or chafed through the insulation. I would suggest checking the wires before spending money on anything. Some here have insisted that the oil mist from the breather kills those sensors but My X1's sensor has been bathed in greasy crap for 80,000 miles without any effect. | ||

Uly_man, I assume your bike is just running way lean because the IAT thinks it is hot? Is that correct? Can you please just give me the basics of Tunerpro? Please keep in mind that I do not like computers and they don't like me. I assume I need a laptop? I only have a desktop PC at home. I have a company owned laptop at work that I can take home but if my they find out that I downloaded Tunerpro, I'm afraid I will end up on the jobless list. In fact, they don't know what I'm doing right now, but if they did, I'm gone.  How do you connect to the bike? Is there a special cable? Where do you plug into the bike? How do you do a logged run? Do you strap the laptop on the back and go for a ride? I apologize for the stupid questions but I am clueless on Tunerpro and have never used ECMSPY either. I do believe that if I could learn how to use it, I could debug the 08 XT Rough Cold Idle that I describe in my other recently posted thread. | ||

Ok so cold bike, cold morning, plug in computer, air temp 16C and run bike. Probe temp goes up to 32C after 4 mins so thats not right. I now have the probe on its wire and waving it about in the OPEN air and the temp is NOT going down which IS what it should do. I cleaned it and the oil breathers were move a long time ago. The bike runs perfect just the way it used to do. It also will sit at a perfect idle, fan running holding a engine temp of 192C and 22C air temp and stays that way ALL the time. Air temp at the sensor was about 20C. Going through a old log showed a normal IAT temp so "all in all" it looks like it is faulty. No idea why but will get a new one. Don't risk your job over it... find somebody to help you. You need a $40 or so cable (that you will have to treat gently), and a machine you can get near the bike that has a USB port (just about all modern computers). Go to ebay and buy an Acer Aspire / eee pc / gateway or some other little netbook for $150 or so.... Reepicheep thanks! Where is the best place to buy a cable? Is the Tunerpro download free? (I'm cheap) Where does the special cable plug into the bike? Is it that 4 pin plug that I used to jumper pins 1 and 2 to check for codes using the CEL? Can I actually make changes to the EBR ECM program with Tunerpro? I could be dangerous with a tool like that. Is there anyone in the SE MN area that is familiar with Tunerpro and would be willing to show me how to use this next spring? Thank you. I would recommend against messing with the maps. Stick with stock, or buy the EBR pre-sorted map. Use tunerpro (or ECM Spy) just as a diagnostic tool and to do TPS / AFV resets. I got my cable from EBay. It included a CD of necessary drivers and software. Go to Ebay and search for "ecm spy cable" On mine, the plug is already sitting under the left hand lip of the seat behind a small plastic cover, a 4 pin deutsch connector. I don't know if it was there from the factory, or if a previous owner routed it there. | ||

Okay thanks. My bike is an 08 so I guess I don't need Tunerpro for TPS resets but it would be nice to be able check all of the engine sensors, as Uly_man is doing with his IAT in another thread. So the ECMSPY and Tunerpro cables are the same thing? | ||

Cables are the same. Software is different, and I'm not sure ECMSpy even works with 08 or later (I use ECMSpy for my 07). |
