Was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with the Shinko brand of tires specifically the Ravens. I have read several tire threads on this site and find no mention of anyone using these. |

Use the search function at the top of the page and search "Big, Bad and Dirty" for Shinko Raven. There are LOTS of threads on these tires. |

Wow I guess being specific when searching really pays off. A Lot of info on the Shinko's. I really dont like buying tires so much info and then to be stuck with them for a few months or a year. |

There's nothing wrong with the Shinko 009, internet bashing notwithstanding. I've used a couple of sets and if you do a search on here you should be able to find a post I did. That said, buy what will make *you* confident. Jesse |

Desertjeff Posted on Tuesday, October 09, 2012 - Was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with the Shinko brand of tires specifically the Ravens. I had a set of Raven 009's. Wet and dry grip was good enough for me. Got just short of 10k miles, with plenty of tread left in the center of the tires. Cornering tread, not so much... Good tires for budget minded, casual riders; however... I would not recommend going "riki racer" on them Your mileage may vary. Front after 9600 miles
Rear after 9600 miles

I have (unfortunately) a shinko tire on the front of my XB. It was on the bike when I bought it, had one on the rear as well and it was totally smooth so it got replaced with a used Bridgestone BT-016 temporarily. Both will be replaced next spring when I start riding it. It's probably one of the crappiest tires I think I've ever run across yet, unless you're after a tire that doesn't stick worth a darn on even a mildly damp road. Having the front end wash out isn't fun in my book, guess I got lucky that I didn't actually go down. |

Shinko Tires - Nope not any idea but. Tire choice is about four things - The bike, style of riding, conditions and a mix of all of that. Good rubber is never cheap and more so with bikes. The Uly has the best frame and suspension I have ever come across and gives sports bike handling even on Scorps. Me 110 mph at 45 degrees over on the highway today and still solid as a rock. |

i read on the internet that they some body knew a guy who had them and that they suck. ... ... so, then i bought a set anyways, and i feel that they are just "not great" shinko's are good for the money, but you can do better at a cyclegear sale. i'm finding that the rear tire does not hold it's pointy profile well, so that makes turn-in require effort. i've had no traction issues. mine were a fresh set that i spooned on, not old & hard and did not come with the bike. what you spend your money on is not up to any of us to make the final decision for you. my advice: wait for a tire sale, if you can |

I was going to get 2 sets of tires for the bikes, but I kinda hate letting them just sit for a couple of months and not use them while it's too cold/wintery to ride. |

I have an Angel on the front and an 009 on the rear. It's coming up on 10K and still has a little life left. I ride 84 miles a day and they are fine for commuting. |

Many do not ride a bike to its full use and so there is no point in spending extra on the rubber. One of the great things about a Uly, and I love so much, is how well it can deal with varied ride styles, conditions and rubber and still handle better than bikes that cost half as much again to buy. They also, and I do not now how, get close to twice the miles on a tire and not square off enough to affect the handling. I have 6k on my Scorps now and they may do 8k. The rubber on all of the bikes I have ever had were VERY shot at 5k. I have a set of 2CTs here waiting to be fitted but the Scorps just keep going and going. |

I have them on my Uly right now. They are OK, I used them on some twisties by San Antonio, TX and they were fine. I don't touch the foot pegs when I ride, but I was confident around curves. They also feel OK on wet pavement. My opinion is that they are not a bad tire for the price and the miles they last. If you are on a tight budget go for it. My back tire does look like it has squared off as it has worn. That said, I probably won't purchase them again (at least next time I need tires). I don't know why, I guess I just want to try a high priced tire like the Michelen PR3's to see for myself if there is a difference thats worth spending $100-$150 more for a set. |

I commute a lot, so cheap tires are tempting. As I saw the flash of silver of a Corolla flashing in front of me from a blind slot in stopped traffic, and executed a perfect stoppie over 20 feet, I was REALLY happy I had premium tires on the front of my Uly. The amount of energy that was dissipated to rotate a Buell Ulysses and a 250 pound fat guy through 90 degrees over 20 feet was an amount of energy I was REALLY happy was not dissipated in my pelvis and spinal column. A cracked pelvis was enough, I'm glad it wasn't an open book break or worse. I bought PR II's when those Pirelli's wore out. |

I have had two sets of the Ravens and would buy them again. Unfortunately, the tire deals aren't as good on Shinkos as they used to be. I'd like to try a set of the 011 Verge tires if I find a deal on them. Yokohama sold their motorcycle tire company to a Korean company. Previous to their exit from the motorcycle tire business, Yokohama used to be a race tire provider. These are not Tomahawks. These are single compound tires, though. There are significant benefits to multi-compound tires. That said, the Shinkos I used seemed to heat up well and had good wet traction. I'd give them a try. |

I would have to second the Contis as a decent deal. I've had mine for nearly a year and after 3-3500 miles, ive been happy with the handling and wear. |

That is a good price on the Conti Motions. But, you won't get as many miles out of them as you will from other sport-touring tires. The carcass is pretty thin, after you hit the wear bars you'll be seeing cords in no time. For comparison purposes, rear Conti Motion was toast at just over 2900 miles compared to 3400 miles on the Dunlop D616 - same type of riding, same type of roads. |
