SO? has anyone gotten these installed yet? I really really want to get a set of more dual sport tires. I know its been discussed to death but aside from the regularly discussed tires are there any other options? I came across Heidenau tires Has anyone shoehorned anything else on the knobby style and enjoyed it? I want to get back into some more aggressive trail rides and at this point can only afford tires, not a different bike!!! (Message edited by jetranger_2000 on October 08, 2012) |

"aggressive trail rides" You might be a bit pushed on that with the Uly. The Avon Distanza are good on the road I had them on a XTZ750. Read this from Dr Greg on them. If I was looking for a "off road" tire these would be my choice. http://badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142838/315725.html?1196930919

I've said it before... Dunlop D616. Nice aggressive tread, lots of void area, very self-cleaning, not terribly expensive, the CORRECT size for the motorcycle, thick carcass for dirt, gravel, and moderate trails, and they perform well on pavement as well. But people like doing things that are different, just because they're different... |

Yes they look like the right sort of thing, Ratbuell.

I was at the AMA races in New Orleans this weekend and they had a stunt bike show there between races. I noticed at least one of those guys was running a D616 on the back of his stunt bike! |

I noticed that at the races at Elkhart Lake this year too. |

Might not be the best for carving corners but sure does look bad as all get out. |

616s seem to handle just peachy for me...even fully loaded with a Buelltoberfest's-worth of camping gear and clothes. Combine this with Uly_man's photo above of the roostertail...and this is why I keep running these tires. |

Won't argue the merits of the D616, also a fan, but without dual or multi-compound construction, they don't fare as well as multi-compound tires in commuter mode. Granted, they are reasonably inexpensive, but I'm getting superior mileage with the PR3s without the "wonkiness" that is common when the front D616 begins cupping. Although I haven't mounted the Distanzias, they get great reviews for those who have tried them, but they also wear quickly (if used in the commuter mode), don't come in 180 width, and unlike the D616s are pretty pricey. . . No doubt the TKCs are an off-road only application, that is why I'll mount them on a separate set of rims for taking the Uly off-pavement. For me, the best scenario is two wheel sets: one for commuting (PR3s), and one for off-pavement (currently MT-60Rs, soon to be TKCs). Acquiring a second wheel-set may not be the cheapest option, but it costs a whole lot less than another (dirt-oriented) bike. . . YMMV |

I run 38psi front in my 616's, and only get minor cupping once the tire is north of 15k miles. Pretty much worn out at that point anyway. |
