If it's red, it's good to go. Before first installation, I suggest close inspection of the inside. Myself and others have found scraps of screen material lodged in the weave. You don't want steel screen wires going through the engine. | ||

What kind of oil should be used? Have no intention of purchasing K&N oil - probably a very ordinary oil Back-in-the-day when non oil bath filters were hi-tek used to use baby oil - Since then have heard rumors that AT fluid is the way to go. | ||

A spray can of K&N oil will last forever. Why risk ingestion of grit or reduce airflow using the wrong oil? The recharge kit is $11.00 from Autozone. It has cleaner and oil. | ||

You don't want to use ordinary oil as it will run off the filter and leave your engine unprotected. The K&N oil (as well as other filter oils) are tacky and thicker to prevent the oil from running off of the filter. If you use normal motor oil you find the oil running out of the airbox and all over the place. If you don't want to use the K&N oil you can go to a Honda dealer or whatever and ask for filter oil. There are several brands to choose from, some come in bottles, and some are spray on. I find the spray on ones easiest to use. The kind that comes in a bottle has to be put into a large bag with the filter and then you work it into the element. It works ok with foam filters like Uni, but for K&N type filters spray on is easier. Buy the K&N recharge kit and it will literally last you years. But I really can not stress this enough: DO NOT USE NON FILTER OIL ON YOUR FILTER!!! It will not cling to the element well enough to protect your engine. | ||

Here is a story? Once "upon-a-time" a man I worked with told me he fitted a Mazda car oil filter to his not very old GSX-R 750 because it fitted ok. What he did not know is the OEM filter has a built-in non return valve that stopped the oil draining out of the head. Every time he started the bike it had almost no oil in the head and in the end it trashed the engine. | ||

Run the K&N air filter right out of the box. When you notice it getting dirty, buy the recharge kit and do exactly what the instructions say. Allow enough time for the drying etc. |
