Got a hole in my third rear tire of this model today (had two last season). i hadn't even done any gravel riding Like with the other ones. A shame too, because they seemed to perform pretty well. I never got a chance to see how long the tread lasted though. How are the newer 180-sized uly tires holding up? | ||

My D616 Dunlops have been doing great for 30k miles - dirt, pavement, whatever I throw at them. | ||

I've got Road Smarts and probably go back to the Storms. The RSs are getting weird cuts on the edges of the tire. When leaned over, doesn't take much to slip. Surprised me as the Storms didn't have this issue. | ||

Wow! 30K on D616's. Might have to give them a try. I bought Michelin PR3's because of the dual compound hoping they'll last longer than 8k. As of now they are doing really great, solid in the turns, grip well in wet conditions, and show little wear after 3k. If you don't take your bike off the beaten path much, I would recommend these. | ||

I don't think Ratbuell has 30k on one set. He is just very happy with the D616s and has not found a need to use a different tire. He has been a firm supporter of the D616. At 30k I suspect he is on his 3rd or 4th set. | ||

Diggin my BT-023's, 1900 miles so far and no appreciable wear. A little slower handling than the RoadSmarts but they stick just fine for the power put out by a Uly with 85K. Will buy again. The Motions do seem to be pretty thin-carcassed, wrong tire for the riding conditions? | ||

I'm up to about 8,500 miles on a set of Michelin PR3's and the rear is down to the wear bars. It's the first tire I've run other than the OEM Pirelli Scorpion Syncs and the life does seem to be appreciably better. The rear PR3 also wore more evenly than a Sync would have; a rear Sync would be very flat by now while this tire has pretty much kept its original profile. OTOH I never have liked the way they turn in as well as the Syncs although I've pretty much adjusted to them by now. I just ordered a replacement rear PR3 last week; hopefully the front is good for another 8500 miles. When that wears out I expect I'll be looking seriously at Pirelli Scorpion Trails. | ||

No, not 30k on one set. Maybe if they did a dual-compound version...  I do a rear every 5k or so, and a front lasts 10-12k. On my *other* Buells...I have a Motion rear on the CR and kinda dig it; it was definitely inexpensive. The S1W and S2 run PR's - 2's on the S2, 3's on the S1W. The CR will get 3's when it needs new shoes. I have close to 8k on the PR2's on the S2 and they still have deep tread and excellent wear patterns. But I won't use them on dirt. My 616's do the job very well on the Uly. Not a pricey tire; no chicken strips; always run the bike heavy (bags full o stuff); routinely put a toe on the ground and sometimes get a peg down but usually can't motor along that hard on public roads. 38/40psi f/r and I don't get the dreaded scalloping, and I get decent treadwear considering all I put the tires through. | ||

Anyone ever push the Motions hard? How do they hold up (traction wise) after they get some heat in them. Maybe not track day heat, but aggressive canyon heat? Or maybe you've done a track day on them? I have them on my '08 Uly and I pushed 'em a bit this weekend--they did nothing untoward. The front was maybe a bit vague, but that could be cause i haven't really set up the suspension; could be just the nature of the super-tall 47mm front end... (it's new to me...).  | ||

I got my Motion rear on the way back from BTF, on the Uly. Should have put a new rear on it before the trip...didn't. wore to the cords, blew out on the way home, got the Conti at the VA border. Rode it home (on the Uly), on the BRP. 400 miles, no chicken strips, no issues, no sliding, no carrying on. Very nice handling. I was impressed enough that I kept it when I got the proper 616 for the Uly, and the Motion is now on my CR. Even with the CR's HP, it's doing very well. But...like I said above, I won't put anything other than a dual-compound on the street bikes so when it goes, a PR3 will go on. | ||

For the money, the Conti-Motions are some of the best. I got a front and rear for $140 delivered. They handled well and lasted well (for me anyway). I got about 4,000 out of the rear. | ||

I'm on my second set of ContiMotions on my Guzzi, and I like them. I haven't ridden on snow with them, but they work well in rain, heat and cold and I get decent life from them. I'd buy them again. | ||

yeah, Like I said the Motions seemed to perform pretty well. (at least to my limited experience). There just must a lot of pointy crap on the roads around here that they won't put up with, although I guess any other tire could have the same problem. Tire punctures are just bad luck. I don't think any brand or model is any more likely to get a puncture than any other. I had larger issues with punctures on the Uly because I was riding it off road on street tires. |
