Hey, Everyone - Hoping for some help regarding my check engine idiot light. I've got around 15,000 miles on my 08 XT, and riding home last night, my CEL stayed. Never had an issue before. No overt negative indications from the sound/feel of the bike, and so I rode (foolishly?) home the 40 miles. I have the dongle from Al at American Sport Bike and attempted to use it today. I think I have a code of 2 - 1. I did a search here and the closest I came up with was (http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/462654.html). However, I don't hear any irregular noises coming from the airbox. Other than the light, the bike is running and acts/looks completely normal. Are there any other indications of a actuator issue other than a fault code and the light? Not sure what if anything can be suggested, but I'd appreciate any input. Thanks in advance. Russ |

Remove your airbox cover. On top of the air box is a box with the cable coming out. Turn your throttle wide open, turn on your ignition and then turn on your kill switch. DO NOT START! You should see the actuator rotate and return. If it does it partially or just makes noise you need to replace it. If it is held together with screws it is an old model and has plastic gears that strip. If it's got rivets holding it together then you have the newer model that usually doesn't fail. If you buy a used one, make sure it's riveted or you're just buying another problem. |

Wow. Nailed it! Thanks very much. Three screws holding it together. And the thing ain't moving at all. It doesn't even look like its trying. Hopefully the actuator isn't a hard part to get. I'll look it up in my parts manual and make sure to get the riveted model. Don't suppose its a safety issue riding in this condition, is it? Thanks again, Tootal Russ |

If you left the cover off the air box and took a ride you would find it only opens at wide open throttle at high rpm so unless your racing your buddy you won't notice a difference! |
