I'm in the middle of my Stator/Rotor replacement, and I have a question, and observation. Regarding the green threadlocker for the sprag bolts. I was told that Locktite was bought by Permatex, so Locktite is no longer available. I'm using permatex Green #29000 on the sprag bolts and the package instructs to put it on the exposed threads AFTER assembly. Is this true?
Now regarding the Goop that some have mentioned removing, from the inside of the stator cover. I started removing it, then it hit me. It's there for a reason. I suspect it helps insulate the stator "pigtail wires" from the aluminum stator cover it's attached to. May this be part of the reason that Hildstrom had the "shorted wire" failure in this area shortly after he reinstalled his rewound stator, and after only a couple hundred miles? Could it be that the heat soak in the stator cover, contributed to the failure also? Hildstrom, please don't misunderstand. I'm just reflecting on what you experienced during your testing. I am very impressed with your D.I.Y.stator rebuild, and technical process. Maybe I'm totally misguided. Please, anyone chime in with your thoughts and experience regarding this.

You must have gotten the penetrating stuff instead. From my experience in buying this, the permatex numbers are the same as loctite, just with two extra zeroes after.

Sounds like you got the wrong permatex/loctite. :-/

As far as the goop on the stator cover, I left it in on mine when I did my DIY stator rebuild.

You can get a correct loctite from here:

The environment you're working in is very hostile.

BMC changed from Green 648 on the rotor nut to Red 272(or 271, I have a mental block on this...) but High-Strength/Hi-Temp for 1"+.
The "other red" is only high-strength, check the specs before you buy.

Use the right stuff or things MIGHT come apart. numbers are very important.
I have noticed the same number cross for Permatex to Loctite, the extra 2 zeroes...

<edit>Figured this was better than a new post -
You are right Baf, the sprag's threadlocker did not change

The green threadlocker is still specced for the sprag clutch bolts though.

I got tired of running all over town trying to find the right threadlocker, so I just ordered the correct stuff on Amazon.
