Ok so my 06 uly came with the tall seat, ordered a seat from an 08 and like it, but it will not latch in the back. It seems to be about 1/8th short and will not engage the latch. Is this normal or do I need to send it back and get a replacement? | ||

It should fit with no modification. I bought a 2008 bike and slapped a 2006 seat on there and it clicked right in. | ||

I am just the opposite - have an '08 and picking up a tall seat from an '06 tomorrow. They all supposed to be interchangeable from what I understand. I'll let you know if it fits... | ||

Occasionally there are problems swapping seats like this but any Uly seat should fit any Uly. You may be able to force it to latch and after a couple of days it will conform to fit better. Getting the seatpan warm by riding or using a heat gun may help. | ||

It won't go in at all. Maybe the 06 tall latch is longer than the 08s. Going from an 08 to 06 wouldn't be a problem. We hit and hit on the rear of the seat to get it to latch but wouldn't. Even raised the latch as far as it would go. | ||

I have am '07 seat on my '06. Fit is finicky, but works. I think it's a seat to seat thing. | ||

I have a late style seat on my '06. Look carefully at the bottoms of both seats to see the "L" shaped hooks that fit into receivers in the under seat area. I broke 1 of these off by not having the seat in proper position before trying to get the seat latched. 1 or both of these hooks may be deformed or misaligned, causing the latch not to engage properly. | ||

The latch is held in position by two bolts under the rear. Loosen those, put the new seat on and latch it then tighten. Done. | ||

I have an '06 X and and '09 XT and regularly swap the seats around depending on the duty - the bases are slightly different but definitely interchangeable. My friends '07 X had a really difficult seat and it had one of the 'L' shaped hooks mentioned by Dio mangled by incorrect fitment. After reshaping it with the help of a heat gun it became much easier to fit. I know when my X was brand new the seat had to be pushed down quite firmly at the rear to get it to latch but it settled in very quickly with pillion use. | ||

Rays, or anyone else with an newer seat, could you measure the distance of how long the bracket is? The one that is on the seat, from the black part down. HOpe this makes sense, have taken sleeping pills. GOOD NIGHT ALL! | ||

OK, this is a comparison of the '06 X seat & the '09 XT seat looking at the brackets ('06 is the lower one).  On both seats the bracket is very close to 1 inch from the plastic flat section to the top of the bracket. ('09 XT seat in the picture).  | ||

Bosgarage, If you loosen the bolts that hold the clamp on the tail section of the bike, the clamp then slides around and adjusts slightly. If you install the seat you are trying to fit and wiggle it around until it clamps then tighten the bolts underneath the tail section it should be repeatable to mount that seat going forward. If doing that still doesn't get the seat mounted than you have a defective seat or bent tail section or something because the frame to the '06 and newer seats are the same. | ||

I just got an '06 seat for an '08 bike. It doesn't latch very well. The cure that I found is to get the seat into position and then press (just press, not kick, but press rather firmly) with my elbow just over the latch, which works out to be about 3 inches forward from the rear end of the seat. When I press I can hear a tiny 'click' and the seat is engaged. Hope it will work for you too. | ||

I had the same issue with the new 06 Tall Seat that I put on my 08 XT. If I remember correctly, I fixed it by placing a couple of thin washers or shims under the bracket that holds the seat latch and re-tightened the bolts. This raised the latch up just slightly and now the seat clicks into place very easily. Thanks. | ||

bos, after all this, gotta say you should check clearances with a wad of clay especially on ecm and battery area. something aint right under there. | ||

Just got a new, used seat from a brother Badweather - Had the same problem Measuring, marking with "whiteout", shimming, generally tweaking convinced me it just wasn't going to go. The problem was that the staple was just too far back & too high. Was going to redesign & shim the latching bracket and would have done that if we still had a milling machine I could access. Instead used heat gun, chains, weights & turnbuckles to move the staple ahead & make the pillar it is set into taller. - Major P.I.T.A., two hours from my life that I will never get back, but no real technology, skill or precision involved. Took pictures if anybody interested. |
