OK, I don't hate you, I envy you. I was ready to trade up when they pulled the plug. Luckily, my '06 still runs just fine. By the way, it tours pretty well too!
Your new 2010 X should do very well indeed. |

I believe once the XT came out ('08), it easily outsold the X...which is why you see more late-model riders on the XT than the X.
Me? I like turning left, finding dirt...and continuing to see what's out there  |

Amazing testaments to this awesome machine, apparently years not being an issue.
I always was intrigued by the ULY both the X & XT leaning towards the X . I very recently woke up one morning realizing its been about 2 years since they stopped making these and I better try to find one..I always noticed these seemed rare in the used bike marketplace and not getting any better, with availability getting worse with mileage going up.
My X is still in the mail but :
Only nit pick I have is with the preload adjuster. I feel that I'll need to measure sag manually rather than rely on the number of turns or am I being dramatic?

2 sets of tires, 2 VRs, 1 Stator, 2 sets of luggage boxes, countless cold beers, beach evenings .... and way too much fun.
Suspension handled all the roads could throw at it.
The X is a great rig for cross-country touring

I think the XT was out selling the X because of the altitude issue.
I'm not over 6'tall, but I would not give up the longer suspension travel especially for touring. I have always liked the long softer ride of a dirt bike on the highway.
My cure for the height of the seat was to get heavier. It squats right to where I like it!  |

Once 2008 rolled around and I saw that the Xt was shorter, had a fender, had all the bags, new fuel injection etc I was hooked.
I knew it was going to be the two-up version of my XB12s that I could not only tour with, but carry everything I needed with ease.
I don't have the quantity of miles some do, but I have quality.
A couple trips to Sturgis and the Lake Superior Circle Tour. My daily commute makes me happy most days!

A $10 (on sale) "gel" chair pad, Givi E45's all around, 1" bar risers, Memphis Shades lowers and a tall MadStad makes my 2008 XB12X a nice tourer. I've taken two 4000+km trips this year:

I just sold my '08 X. 34,000 miles in just over four years. For me, there is no better touring bike made. Love the extra suspension travel. Very comfy on rougher roads. Longest trip was 5300 miles in sixteen days. From Denver west to Washington coast, north then back east to Port Angeles, hop a ferry to Victoria, ride Vancouver Island, hop a ferry to Prince Rupert, BC, then east with a quick jaunt north to tag Hyder, Alaska, do Jasper, the Ice fields Parkway, and Banff. Then head south through Glacier, Yellowstone, and back home. On the trip were an '06 Uly, my '08, an '09 Uly, a '99 M2, and a '98 S3. The only problems we had were two flat tires. I'm in the process of building a Uly tailed 1125CR. I'm hoping I like it as much as I loved my Uly.
Did I mention how much I like the suspension travel?

I completed a 4200 mile ride on my XT in 9 days. The bike did great, my butt on the other hand... |

Can't match that USA to Argentina sketch but in 2008 I rode from London to sw Portugal and back plus lots of use when in Portugal. 5000 miles, no problems. I live in Portugal now and when I came down it was it was in a Ford van with the Uly in the back. I'm not sure about longevity but it is the most fun bike I've been on and my other bike is a Suzuki B-King!! So that says it all. |
