Pulled the trigger on an X had to ship it. I'm kind of psyched , I know the X is street/dirt. I want to know if many tour on the stock suspension. I'm hoping it's sporty enough to throw around turns as well .. | ||

have no clue what uly man just said......but I just bought an x as well. So far I really like it. Just ordered a right side air scoop to help with heat, and a stock seat for a newer bike. I think this bike is going to be an awesome touring machine. Heck going 60 mph 5th gear seams to lug, it wants to go 80 or more. I think you'll like it! | ||

Just rode mine down to the dragon for the weekend, 908 miles one way, made it back in 13hrs and 5 minutes including stops for gas...was a great ride, had all my camping gear just in case...using stock suspension, pilot road 3's for tires...the only thing is the heat from under the seat...other than that it was a blast... | ||

Ive ridden mine 2 up from ATL to Lake Placid NY and back Also did 5k 2 week round trip from ATL to Puerto Vallarta Mexico... 100 mph down there for hours on end...of course that might be what toasted my rocker box gaskets.... but had no problems until after I got back... great touring bike. | ||

Did 2800 miles in 9 days including slab, twisties and dirt/gravel. Blew a fork seal after the gravel part and had to come home early. With oil on your brakes you still have 50 percent of your braking and that beats a 1960 BMW R69!! | ||

I'm hoping it's sporty enough to throw around turns as well .. Oh, it's plenty sporty alright. Wait 'til you hit "real world" pavement (frost heaves, root bumps, etc.) and watch the sport bikes freak while you glide right through. | ||

Did many S.F. bay area to Los Angeles trips on my '07. Did my SS1000 on it as well. I don't go off road on it, but ride it daily as my commuter. Pretty much do all bike. | ||

if it's an 06 change the front springs for the 07 and the right level of oil, is the best mod as a start. | ||

Took a 2000 mile trip within two weeks of purchasing my 2008 X. I put on the Journey saddlebags with an outdoorsman top box. I'l doing a coast to coast with both the X and XT. | ||

let's see...'06 with all three bags. Straight shot, Maryland to Florida. In pouring rain from NC to Daytona. Straight shot, Maryland to TN/GA, and back, for BTF...more than once. Up and down the Dragon while I was there. Straight shot, Maryland to WVBR and back. 3 day loop, 2-up, Maryland, around Lake Michigan, stopped at HC '10 for the festivities, then back to Maryland. yeah...they tour just fine  | ||

Sounds really good everyone! Seems like the original 2006-2007 X have chimed in at higher rate than the 2008+ X models. I'm hoping this is coincidence and the 08+ still carry the torch as I've scored an '10 X model. Revised front end geometry on the 08+ has me wondering it seems like a slight rake change....why? How do they feel now? Is it hardly noticeable? I really hope it's not worse than the previous years anyone know? Any way great experiences from all on the X model touring and street abilities as if there was any question....lol (Message edited by Xenox on September 18, 2012) | ||

I really hope it's not worse than the previous years anyone know? There is actually no difference in the geometry. The triple clamps were altered to allow more steering lock, which is fairly restricted on 06/07 Ulys. To do this, they had to move the fork legs forward and add rear offset to the front axle mounting points to compensate. This keeps the wheel (and therefore the contact patch) in the same place relative to the steering axis as it was in earlier bikes. The forks were made slightly larger, I'd guess to deal with the "eccentric" loads imposed by moving the axle off-center relative to the fork legs. Never read any complaints here about the change. | ||

I have really enjoyed touring on my '06X. As a matter of fact.....I highly recommend it! From East Tennessee to central Fla a few times, by way of the UP to Wisconsin a couple of times. Southern Tier of NY and NW Pa and central Pa, not to forget WV a few times. Touched in to Minnesota and the West side of the Missouri River. Alabama to the Panhandle of Florida. Many 400+ mile days near home. The best proof of it's touring ability for me came in '07 after Homecoming. A wreck on a test ride bike left me with 2 broken ribs,4 cracked ribs, and both ankles sprained. I rode it that night about 100 miles to get Rx supplies and back to our hotel, then rode it 760 miles home the next day. I don't know of any other bike than one with a long soft suspension, and a great seat, that I could have made that trip on. There are many roads that compare or out shine the Dragon in East Tennessee. These twisted trails are like my home court. When I go out on a Saturday ride and get back with less than 300 miles on the bike, I feel like I have not even been out yet. I cannot tell you about the ride-ablility of the newer Ulys, because mine only has around 60,000 miles on it so far. When would I have time to ride a newer one? | ||

I have done several 3k mile plus tours on my 09. Tx, NM, AZ, CO, on all kinds of surfaces. Its a great touring bike. | ||

Our '09 X does just fine touring and got the bulk of the miles put on it when I was in MN and CO this past summer. The only reason I prefer the XT is because I have the EBR ECM in it so it seems to run more smoothly overall. Also, I feel it is more visible to others in traffic because it has the top case light mod on it. When we have both of those things on the X, all bets are off. Mines an XT. Close enough though. 2009. Toured just fine, just don't let incompetent dealers do shoddy work after the fact.
