Sorry dudes, searched through many posts on this and never saw a conclusive answer. My bike is starting to crank SLOWLY and has reset its clocks a few times in the process. Some seem to think its battery related, others a broken wire in the front loom. My battery is probably two years old(with the hottest summer on record in tx under its belt), with maybe 20k on it? Yes, all connections are tight and clean. Any ideas? |

Sounds pretty obviously like a bad battery or battery connection. |

Sounds like the battery so get your battery crank tested, then you'll know for sure. |

For a OEM battery. Remove the battery and charge at less than 1 Amp. A higher charge rate can be used but 1 Amp is best, will not damage the battery and anything higher is not needed anyway. 12.7v is fully charged, 12.6v 75% charged and 12.3v 50% charged. Once charged it should not drop below 12.5v standing. If it does you need a new battery. Check with a GOOD meter. Bosgarage57 - The 06 bikes are bad for this and I never found a cure even with a new battery. Best idea is a tender unless you use the bike daily. Get the higher 220 CCA output battery if you can as it may help some. And/or the Li-Ion version. Portero72 - The latter bikes can still do this if they are left standing a while and they crank at the wrong point. Mine does it every now and then. The bike does have a small "parasitic" drain, like most modern FI cars and bikes, so if I am not using the bike I remove the Negative terminal to the battery. Woks great and easy on this bike. Check the bikes charge voltage with TunerPro or other system. It should be around 14.5v. |

It is definitely the battery, or at least in my case it was. I guess it could be a ground or a loose wire, but the Uly is very resilient in the sense that it will use a battery til the last drop. Stick a new battery in and all will be good. The clock and odo is resetting because of the voltage drain during startup. |

It is easy to test for the "broken wire in the loom" vs the battery. Turn on the key, watch the odo or clock. Hit the start button. If that drops the clock it is the battery. If it is a loom wire it will happen when steering the bike or at random times while riding with other symptoms like the engine cutting out or speedo and tach dropping out also. I have cured my bike of this symptom three times since 2006. Each time was a new battery. I run the AGM from O'Reilly's expecting two good years out of it for the Uly. When it starts to drop power I put it in my Blast where it will crank the single for a couple more years problem free. |

New battery cured it. |
