so, did the AMA just neuter monster energy/graves, or am i not following the decision on electronics for 2013 in superbike? i don't claim to be an expert on this stuff. |

I would think that Journalism 101 would emphasize correct spelling. It's Greg White's job to get it right. Mediocrity should not be so easily embraced. The nature of Journalism, and today's rapid fire world makes it worse, is that mistakes ALWAYS get into stories. You are on deadline and there is only one thing that will absolutely get you fired; not filing the story. The deadline hits and you have better filled. 5 more minutes checking spelling and grammar would be nice BUT you don' t have 5 minutes. |

so, did the AMA just neuter monster energy/graves, or am i not following the decision on electronics for 2013 in superbike? i don't claim to be an expert on this stuff. Here's my understanding (and I don't pretend to be an expert, so I'd welcome any additional info/clarification anyone can offer). Prior to the start of the 2012 season, the AMA announced that there would be a limit on the cost of aftermarket electronic systems (I believe the cap was $18,000) for the 2013 season. Most teams feel that such a limit is still too liberal (and most of the cost is in the management of those systems and not the actual system). Rumor was that 'One team threatened to drop out if the AMA did what most teams wanted and instituted a stricter limit.' Presumably that one team was Graves. My preference would be to allow only the electronics available on the stock bike. It's a production based racing series after all. Requiring a production system would not only provide better, more interesting racing, but also improve the systems we're actually able to buy. Since the rumor is only a rumor, I won't hold anything against Graves, but I would like to see the AMA institute a stricter electronics rule. If any teams decide they don't want to participate unless they can have an advantage that benefits them above everyone else, so be it.

Might as well call it AMA superstock. When's the WSBK race start? |

Electronics has all the potential of completely ruining any and all racing series. When it comes down to who ever can hire the best software engineer to run your bike we have lost something. |

which makes what EBR and the guys are doing just that much better. the rule is a pacification rule. AMA gets to say 'see look we limited the gadgets' when as was pointed out above it was never about the gadgets but the engineering wizards that make them talk that's the true issue. Erik was interviewed earlier this season and this came up. basically he said the same thing and that where he did see some value in the gadgets he felt like his resources were better spent elsewhere. |

Electronic traction control... Wheelie control... What's next? Electronic steering control? Enhanced GPS autopilot? Why even have a rider?? My idea of traction control? Proper application of throttle/brake by the RIDER. |

get rid of electronics. 18k is crazy.electronics should not be more then half the cost of the entire bike. |

Mat mladin, no electronics. he said that took away from the skill of the rider. I am with that. |

IRC Josh Hayes does not use the electronics on his bike...he prefers to control things himself. |

IRC Josh Hayes does not use the electronics on his bike...he prefers to control things himself. That was last year. This year he is running full electronics. |

A. $18k is less than 7% of the cost for a Graves bike. B. If Erik had a superb electronics kit, there still would not be enough seat time by Geoff and Danny to dial in the settings for a final 2012 run. C. if Erik could rework a traction system and was successful, I am sure the Asian bike companies would have 'that sort of control' kicked out and leave Erik penny-less and teach Hero a lesson. To sum it up, Erik has set a very high bar, there is no street version bike with an additional $35k worth of mods that can beat an EBR1190RS on a track day. Right now the two factory (non street) Yams and Suzis are at the top of a particular set of rules. Limit it to $45k per race bike 'out the door' and the bottom would fall out for Y and S. |

Wow. Either Road Racing World needs an education in how easy it is to spoof email headers and pretend to be somebody else in email, or JRP does have medical issues (that probably go way beyond the effects of any pot that he did or didn't use). I hope he finds some peace. He doesn't sound good... |

I read the Johnny Rock Page article and boy was it embarrassing. And does he call himself Johnny Rock Page because Johnny Insufferable A-hole Page was already taken? |

Now that the Senior VP at American Honda is retiring is it possible that who takes his position may think returning to Road Racing in this country may benefit them ?? |

Dana, very well could be. When things change up at the top, interesting things sometimes follow. But....sometimes it's the same old, same old since the successor is usually groomed for the position by the person leaving. |

I wonder who and where some of these riders will be next season. Usually we know where they are goin to some degree. Not only in Superbike but Sportbike as well. |

Looks like no Sears Point (Sonoma)this year. I've heard others haven't committed yet either. http://www.cyclenews.com/articles/road-racing/2012 /10/22/no-sonoma-race-for-2013-ama-superbikes/ |
