Man, the refs gave that game to the Pats on a silver platter. they let the secondary of NE get away with so much holding and interference, it was ridiculous. the Patriots played tough though, gotta hand it to them. |

Was curious if there's a machinest here? Need someone to look at a metal lathe for me in Houston Texas. Cheers, -JW:> edited by jim_witt on January 19, 2004 |

I am looking at getting a Vance & Hines Carbon SSR2 for my 96 S2. The bike is stock. Anyone with advice? How will it affect my power / weight / noise? Will the bike need to be re-jetted? Thanks all. Take care, be safe. |

Jonathan...Jeez, I'm glad I saw your post above...I went through three V & H carbon fiber cans on my S3T...The first two they covered under warranty and the third we just threw up our hands (didn't even call them) and ordered the Buell race set up...No problems since except the sucker is way too loud...It goes through packing in a big rush...You know, if I had it all to do over again I'd think long and hard about leaving it stock... See Ya! Bob |

Doughnut: Take a look here at Summitt Racing. Not to "Dis" V&H, but CF for a Buell exhaust is a marginal application. Summitt can supply you a Supertrapp cheaper than Supertrapp can! You can either go with the stock type or the IDS. Drop me a line if you need some help. Neil S. |

Doughnut, I picked up a V&H c/f SS2R for my '96 S2 a year or so ago. Got it for roughly $250, I think from Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse... I have a CA bike with the Qwiksilver II carb so I just adjusted the main needle and idle mixture. Bike does run better than with the stock exhaust, bike runs a little louder but not real loud. Of course the c/f weighs less... Seat of the pants dyno only... Jim in Santa Barbara |

Racerboy, what was the problems with the cans? The reason I am looking at the V&H is that it is going for about $90 and my buddy shook the stock can off his 98 S3T. I have had no problems with mine. (96 S2 with about 3000 miles.) Was thinking to get it before my can falls off. If the stock piece is good enough I would love to keep it. I know little about all this stuff so all advice is welcome. Thanks. |

Jonathan, I have the Supertrapp on my S2, no problems at all. The problem with the CF VH is it shakes apart. The S2 exhausts are less prone to this than later tube framers due to the pipe configuration. I'm not sure if the CF can has the same self destruct habits on an S2 or not. I suspect it does, just takes a bit longer. There is TONS of info in the Exhaust KV section here at BWB. Racerboy, I have the new ST race can on my M2. I agree with you regarding the packing. The fiber glass ST stuff doesn't last long. I'm going to use ceramic packing next time around. You have to buy a bunch from an industrial supplier but the stuff does last much longer. Better move this to the KV before the Sheriff shows up.... Brad

Well, my S2 spit the SS2R off once while crossing the flats West of Maricopa... The bike got loud then. After the SS2R cooled off I used a bungee to mount it to the PAX seat and headed back into town. Stopped at True Value and got some bolts, nuts and lockwashers. The SS2R has been great ever since. Doughnut, I take it you are looking at the V&H carbon fiber cans on e-bay? I have a White Bros carbon fiber on my S2 and it has been great. the S2s are much less prone to breaking pipes. For the $90 in my opinion you can't go wrong!! |

Jonathan...Let's put this in perspective a bit...I have a 2003 ST1300 with 22K miles on it bought in May of last year and it was down two months due to early season deer hunting on the interstate...When my S3T was my primary ride it took the same kind of mileage abuse and the V&H CF cans just would not hold together...But for your application, mileage, and the low cost I think Dan is spot on and I'd go ahead and best of luck... See Ya! Bob |

Anybody ever tried Perlite for muffler packing? It seems like it could handle the heat and it does have acoustic deadening properties, and is available in gardening shops. I had a thought to try it but havent had the opportunity yet. |

Me again, If there's a machinist here that lives near Houston Texas, I need them to check out a metal lathe for me for its condition. Will pay for your time to do so "if" you have the necessary skills. Cheers, -JW:> |

Jim,What kind of information you need? I started my working career as a machinist but that was just about the time CNC was starting so I don't know much about that equipment. I'm in Houston and could look at it. |

Doughnut, have you rejetted carb yet, stock CV needs a bigger pilot jet at least, and a K&N replacement for stock filter is a good idea.3000 miles, where has that bike been parked, should be 20x that at least,to get broken in right---- |

Firmanjim, would you believe I just bought the bike 11-20-03. From a dealer no less. Was not expecting to. I just wanted the store stamp for the free shirt offer. Turn out to be a very expensive free T-shirt. As fas as I know the bike is completely stock, never been re-jetted, always used H-D components. Hoping to get the bike. to 20,000 miles before 2005. edited by Doughnut on January 20, 2004 |

Doughnut: There may be some that argue but, IMHO the S2's are one of the funnest, finest bikes made! (Can you say "Throw down the gauntlet". Anyway, my 96' S2T has the Nallin 1250 kit with stage 1 heads and N3 cams with a Mikuni. To say that it is a lot of fun is like saying Pamela Anderson has ok tits! Passion really does rock and 1st or 2nd gear power wheelies are just second nature. Combine the power with the handling and you have a real receipe for FUN! Congrates on joining the S2 family and loosing your soul to the Buell Gods;+}. Neil S. P.S. If I paint Passion a brillant bright Blue do I have to rename her? I think not since the "passion" is in my soul, not just between my legs. |

Ccryder: I checked out the Nallin site. I am interested. There are quite a few kits, do you recall which one you got? (I.D number?) Since everyone is O.K. will schooling the newbie, another question. I am short (5"9), I would like to get my S2 lowered about 1 to 1.75 inches. Advice? (I assume it goes without saying that I do not want to destroy the handling in the process.) Thanks all. Take care, be safe. |

Doughnut, In my opinion I suggest leaving your S2 just the way it is unless you really have a need for speed. If left stock they are reliable as any bike. Once you up the hp you risk more potential for detonation as well other things. To lower your bike there are several options. First we need to know which shock you have on the reare. |

I believe it is the latest recall replacement rear shock. It is fully enclosed if that helps. |

The lengh of the shock is what matters. Is the shock real fat on the ends or is it kinda skinny? |

Doughnut, I'm an inch shorter than you are and I wouldn't consider lowering my S3. One of the drawbacks of doing so is decreased wheel travel, an important handling characteristic. |

The casing seems pretty universal in thickness. I am starting to think that I shouldn't fix it if it isn't broke. |
