Hey guys, to start with at the end of last riding season (less thank 10k miles ago) I replaced the detent plate and added 2 clips opposed to the stock one. Also did shift paw adjustment. I did this because I found myself not able to get past 2nd gear. So it has ran just fine for 10k miles in regards to the tranny. Now, for the last week or so I had been riding it I heard a clanking in the primary case if I would for instance put the bike in neutral when coming up to a red light and then pop it down into first at say anywhere from 5mph on up. The same noise could be heard if I popped it into neutral from second coming up to a red light at say 30 mph and then shifting back into second at any speed above 15-20mph Not really a grinding, more of a chatter if you will. I assumed it was the primary chain being obscenely loose, as well as the primary oil getting up to that 7k mark. So I went to drain the oil and on the magnet I found a piece of metal that looked very similar to that clip I replaced for the detent plate. So I just pulled my primary chain off and low and behold the detent plate and clips are right where I left them in great shape. So I assume it was the primary chain in the first place. Now where did that piece of ugly looking metal come from? Is there a second thing in the primary case that is known to break down? I guess maybe that piece of metal could be left over from when the clip broke last fall? I tossed out what I thought to be the detent plate clip when I saw it so I can't get a pic of it, and other than a few tiny shavings on the magnet, there weren't any other piece of metal in my primary. Thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks for your response. |

Did you check inside your stator - and did you torque that bolt to at least 200 foot pounds? EZ |
