Dear Mr. Johnk, Your recent inquiry was forwarded to the Two Wheel division of Continental Tire the Americas. The new 120 and 180 TKC80s are on there way to our US warehouse now and should arrive in the next week or so. You should be able to get these new tires by end August from your local dealer. Thank you for your interest in Continental motorcycle tires. Regards, Janet DeCandia Continental Tire the Americas, LLC Coordinator, Operations/Administration Two Wheel Tires |

Will they fit the Uly? When will they be out? Does anyone have these yet? |

Well reading the letter...and seeing its not the end of August yet...I'm gonna guess nobody has them yet. I'll stick with my D616's. Great in gravel and sand, stick well on pavement, don't handle pavement like a dirt tire and don't handle dirt like a street tire. Works for me! I just wish they'd debut a dual-compound version... |

""Will they fit the Uly? When will they be out? Does anyone have these yet?"" They're out already - but you don't want these. Version 2 is coming out pretty soon, and word is they are waaaay better (better mileage and grip); especially when mounted on a Uly. . |

I am assuming these are only new to us in our size? I was looking at them at Motorcycle Superstore as they advertise free shipping, and there were plenty of comments below with guys on their third set? I am assuming they have been running a size that has been around for a while. Otherwise, they have them in stock and shipping. |

I am assuming these are only new to us in our size? I believe that's correct. |

I am assuming these are only new to us in our size? Yup, the BMW GS1200 adventure comes stock with them. They are finally making them In a size that fits the Ulysses. I think the Uly would look really mean with em ... an all black Uly would like kind of Mad-max like. I can't really justify buying them since I ride paved roads 99.9% of the time, but still might try them out. |

For the advanced off-roaders and tire geeks in the group. . . I'm inclined to think the 150/70/17 rear Twinduro might be a better option for the rear in lieu of the 180/55/17 if you're planning to mount a set of these tires for 90% off-pavement use. Here's my thinking (for what that's worth)... 1) A lot of us have mounted the 150/70/17 size tire when looking for a more dirt oriented tire, be it Distanzias, MT-60Rs, Shinko, etc., so it'll fit the rim. 2) The handling characteristics of the narrower 150 width would be minimal due to intended use off-road - - not exactly in "canyon carver" mode if traveling off-pavement (for me, away), so "turn-in", "getting the bike back upright" not really a concern. 3) The higher aspect ratio of 70 will most likely protect the rim from rock/trail damage than the shorter 55 ratio and still (due to the 150s narrower width) not be too high for the rear fender. 4) The 150 gives you the ability to air down the tire (to supplement the suspension and increase the contact patch) without concerns of rubbling the swingarm. Not that I'd run the tire at 20 psi, but always good to be able to do so for a sketchy section. Not saying you couldn't air down the 180, and realizing it has a larger contact patch already, but imagine you'd have some clearance issues with a tire that wide and the swingarm. 5) They are $20-$50 cheaper than the 180s. Not that it's all about the money, but if it's a preferred choice and cheaper, that just makes it all the better. Comments ? ? Outta my mind with this thought process ? ? |

The Distanzias and MT-60R's are 160 width, not 150. Not sure which Shinko you've seen used on a Uly. Then you get into technicalities; The bike manufacturer doesn't recommend it, the tire manufacturer doesn't recommend it, etc. I also see your #3 as a poor point. Sure the higher side wall is protective, but it leaves the wheel lip very exposed. The wider tire, while it is shorter, protects the sides much more. In any case, they're out! Where's the pictures of them on a Uly??? |

A uly with a Scorpion Sync front and a Dunlop D205 170 rear is a minor terror to try and ride though the turns.... you start trying to lean and nonthing... nothing... nothing... FLOP... AHHHHH! Never wrecked it, but it was a long tedious pucker of a ride home. |

Mike / Bill - Thanks for the input; opted for the 180/55, have a set of "off-pavement" rims that I throw on the Uly for gravel / Fire Service Road riding. Still have a set of the MT-60Rs on them that'll I'll need to run out before mounting the Conti's, but they'll get plenty of work next Spring. |
