 Nice, eh? All I did was swish a little warm soapy water around in there to clean 85k of dust dirt and crud out, was rewarded with that. They were bad enough to be called headlights before, now I'm sure they'll suck at night on my commute home. So now my long anticipated overhaul is on hold again so I can scrape up the $$$ for new headlights. So I'm thinking... new stock '09-10 (easy way out and better than the first ones I hear)? Or  H-4's in each, I could run one side normally and AutoSwitch the second on highway trips to limit battery drain in city riding. These are awesome, but I'm having difficulty finding a valid link for more info:  H-4 and pilot bulb in one and H-7 in the other, I like that better but being German I'm sure they're pricey. Mounting them up shouldn't be a problem, I like fiddling with 6061-T6. Any thoughts or input? Any experience with the Dominators? | ||

i suppose to hook them on you can buy some fittings some thing similar to this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/160834208414?ssPageName=ST RK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648 I recall seen them on e-bay fro 180$ i think. the non german ones go for around 80$ i seem to remember, as i was checking for a friend who has fried his reflectors with 55w 6000 kelvin xenon. | ||

Those two setups look pretty sweet. The stock 09 headlight housing IS noticeably better than my 06 was, FWIW. | ||

I installed a set of the first ones you posted on my X1. Worst lights ever! They look great, like they have a good lens and reflector...but it was AWFUL quality optics and the light given was almost useless- it was dangerous. | ||

I spoke with AL at American Sport Bike last year about a new set of 2010 headlights and they were available for a decent price at that time. | ||

We just purchased the 2009-2010 headlight assembly from HD. Seem to recall it was in the $150 range for the total assembly, including harness and bulbs. YRMV | ||

I had to replace my housing after about 40k on the 09. New one cost $150 or so, and the brand spanker new housing cast a ton more light down the road than any old one will. | ||

I've got Sylvania Ultra-White halogens in the headlights, both-on-high mod. Next to them is a pair of PIAAs. All 4 light up the road for a LOOOONG way. People move over pretty quick too, on the freeway...  | ||

This last 5x7 has a lens configuration very similar to the lens on my R100S which is why I'm leaning that direction, I'm aware of the rightside/leftside beam focus/cutoff but now I know what to look for regarding the "E". I did the same with my X1 total crap lighting... but i have been told if you wire direct off battery via a relay the lighting is a heap better. | ||

I'm sure happy with my setup and it didn't cost much. My stock lights were intact to start with so there's that expense but as Al posted above, they aren't bad. I bought a great lightbar from GMT over on ADV for $35 and put a pair of 1250 lumen 15 degree spot led's from DDMtuning on it. I think they were $35 each and seem very heavy duty and bright. I replaced the low beam bulb in the stock bucket with an HID also from DDMtuning and it was inexpensive. I think it was $24. I use the stock high beam and activate the spots with an Autoswitch which cost around $20. I bought an illuminated rocker switch from Autozone for a couple of bucks and mounted it in a hole I drilled in the dash bracket to activate the HID. This not only gives me plenty of light but it doesn't use so much juice that my charging system can't handle it. Especially when you consider that with the headlight switch on low beam, there is no light on when I'm starting and warming up the bike. I just hit the "flash to pass" trigger twice to activate the LED's and run then at all times. If I need more light I just hit the high beam and if I want to really light things up I tic that rocker switch for the HID. A cat ran across the road in front of me the other night and burst into flames! Just for fun I put a 7 color rotating led in the center "parking light" socket that is in between the stock headlights. I put the key switch in "park" to activate it around the campfire or whatever. I call it "mood lighting". So far this setup has given me great bang for the buck and zero problems. Well, except for the mood lighting. Those cheapie little rotating led's only last a couple of years max but they come in a pack of 2 for like 5 bucks. Everything else works just fine and don't quit. Another fun point of this setup when the inevitable "hey, you have a headlight out" thing comes up. I start flippin switches and the lights start coming on all over the place and they pretty much just walk away confuzzled and temporarily blinded. | ||

Still looking, found this yesterday:  Hmmm...  From the same company:  Both the above are H4/H7 combos which I like. Getting used to the idea of trimming away the flyscreen, maybe even enough to put in a 7" Round H4:  Decisions, decisions. | ||

"The stock one really isn't very expensive." The later, or at least my 2010 bike over the 06 bike, headlights seem a lot better. If this is the later type and you can not be bothered messing with aftermarket stuff it should be fine with a set of HIDs. I have been using a set of HIDs for a while now and the starting thing seems to be no problem. They are the modern "slim-line" type and do not need the "re-strike" or cool off period the old type used to need. They are cheap, easy to fit, you can easy change back to a normal lamp if they fail, have amazing light quality, use less power and knock spots off just about everything else. I bought TWO complete systems for the price of just ONE PIAA lamp. The whole deal is a "no brainer" and a good replacement HID lamp is as cheap now as a normal Halogen lamp. | ||

I sure would like to know what the difference is in the 2009-up headlight assembly. I think at least a couple of other Badwebbers besides Uly_man have made the same comment, but IIRC someone looked and couldn't see any obvious differences in the parts. Al- do you know if there's a difference in the 2009-up headlight assembly? | ||

The stock one really isn't very expensive. Agreed, especially when factoring in the time involved in fabricating mounts for an aftermarket. However as I stated, I think the lights on my '06 were a joke even as new. And since everybody in a position to compare the newer stockers vs the older says that the newer throw more and better quality light, there's still the durability factor of the reflector. The most recent finds above have replaceable components which I like, a lot. What about opening the stock housing and putting these in: Bi-Xenon projectors. Not a bad idea either, and IMHO a better solution than putting HID's into an already pathetic stocker reflector. Of course that's my personal opinion and I know a lot of you guys are happy with your HID conversions.
