Walked into the garage tonight and there was a puddle under the remote reservoir. The aluminum plate where the hose screws in had cracked. 1. can I get just a remote reservoir assembly? 2. Where/how do I add oil? 3. Do I need to take it to a speed shop, to have it filled with nitrogen afterwards? grrr..... |

I'd call Penske and ask them for a local shop around you or maybe they can do some R&R on it for you. |

Actually, my Penske is a race-team retiree that I bought from them years ago...after they raced it for a number of seasons. It's earned a crack or two And...I found my books! 8987 series shock, parts list says I need the "Housing, 8760, side entry" for what the book calls the 8660 series compression adjuster (fixed low speed/adjustable high speed)...but since the Buell uses it "backwards", it's actually the rebound adjuster. It's got an exploded view diagram and everything. And it looks like I can swap two parts during the rebuild, and go from fixed low speed, to adjustable low speed setting. Hardest part is gonna be refilling and recharging it with nitrogen, once I rebuild it. The hard parts look simple, though. Easy-peasy.

Yeah, I've heard good things about them. What was the refurb fee from them? Penske is only 2 hours from me, in Reading PA. Already contacted them re: a service, repair, freshening...we'll see what they say. It's absolutely worth having done right...and I think I have a stock Showa laying around somewhere so I don't have to sideline the bike completely. Worst case, I have a drag race strut (ouch), if I just *have* to ride it. But I don't see that happening, at least not with the strut. lol |

Well, mine's going off to Penske on Tuesday (gonna pull it during the long weekend). Their guy Michael has been super helpful via email. They have the part I need in stock (the housing), we've worked out what info I need to send with the shock so they can tailor it precisely to me, and they'll get it all nice and happy again for me I'll also get a new dyno chart for it (I have the one from the race team setup; will be interesting to compare the two). |
