So I still have a problem with my XB9R and the right side frame getting hotter than hell. I've wrapped the headers, sprayed them with the silicone header wrap spray, and added the small OEM scoop. Doesn't get as hot as quickly but gets too hot nonetheless. I also have Sharkskinz full fairing which I won't get rid of. So gonna try a couple of things, hopefully this might help some other folks. Going to get some Thermotec heat shield from American Sport Bike and line the inside of the right frame with it. Gonna get the bigger right side scoop, and maybe find some DIY ducting to pipe air from outside the fairing straight in. Also might try cutting some rubber or diamondplate sections out to protect my knee/leg from the heat. That would be cheaper than the other two options so gonna try this first! | ||

Yep, they do that... The only time I notice the "right side heat", is when riding in a left to right cross wind. | ||

I get it after 30 minutes or so. I usually ride full leathers, but sometimes I like to squid it around town or cruise with a girly riding 2-up. | ||

What about your ECM? Getting the correct tune will help it run cooler overall. Your profile says you flashed the ECM, I assume you mean you copied the P&A Race ECM maps to your stocker. | ||

heat on the right side. try riding an1125 around. the right side is scalding even at freeway speeds in leathers. | ||

At Froggy - I bought the cable and fellow Buell rider gave me some maps and ECMSpy which I loaded up. Didn't even think about that, I backed up the stock file/configuration thing before I did it. Might run cooler if I go back to stock? I'm running open airbox and magnaflow exhaust. | ||

Figured the 1125 was cooler since it was liquid cooled...whoa. Thanks Hugh I will try some of that. | ||

even though the 1125 is liquid cooled, the headers are not and you get every ounce of heat from them. | ||

That's crazy. Thought liquid cooled stuff runs cooler always. I'm gonna try the Thermotec and they make TechSpec that covers the frame too. | ||

Does the bike have a K&N performance air filter? If so, and the ECM is stock, you're running extra lean. Go back to a paper filter and it will help. | ||

Yes it does!! K&N, open airbox and magnaflow custom exhaust. Guess it is running lean!! I will load up the race map and see what that does. | ||

I did the liner with the heat barrier from American Sport Bike. I would recommend getting the plastic "push-in" fasteners so that you can remove the wiring harness and cover the left hand side of the frame as well. Those little fasteners almost always break off, but I found replacements at NAPA. Just take your time and make some templates out of cardboard or old folders, and make sure you have it oriented correctly before you start cutting (I ended up with one "mirror image" heat shield - not enough coffee that morning I guess!)  It makes sense that you need to address the tuning and can do that without rotating the engine, but every little trick can help. | ||
