harley picked up my 2002 cyclone to be serviced after i'd parked it for 5 years, next day i went there to talk to the service manager, and wouldnt ya know i left on a 08 1125r black and blue.i was interested in the bike years ago and only just found out they went out of business. 5400 miles, and weak starts, dont know age of battery. also the parts bag from the previous owner revealed a sylonoid, so i guess its denoided, but im not really sure why? |

jardine fender eliminator kit is in the mail, my inst displays the gear, so am i to assume my 08 inst has been replaced? and price? i didnt haggle over harleys 6,900 tag, because i feel i got the trade deal i was looking for. they gave me 2500 for my 2002 cyclone that was in the shop with an estimated 600 repair bill, that i didnt have to pay, also had 22,000 miles and some weathering issues imo. |

Congrats on the purchase. Do you still have the Cyclone too? The battery probably needs replacement, if it is original it would be around 4 or so years old now, and if it was sitting without a battery tender it sure is to be weak. Try giving it a good charge and seeing how well it holds up, but I'd put some cash aside for a new battery soon. The solenoid is part of the air intake, it is used as a noise emissions control device to quiet the intake during some hard acceleration conditions. Problem is, the way it works is by restricting airflow in the throttle body, resulting in the bike falling flat on its face instead of hard acceleration. One thing I would do is check to see what ECM the bike has, odds are it is the stock one, if so you can purchase a Race ECM from Erik Buell Racing, it smooths out the fueling and improves overall driveability. I'm not sure where you heard Buell went out of business, because that is not true. Harley simply shut the brand down and is not making anymore bikes. Everything else, including parts and service is the same as it was 5 years ago. |

Ok I see you traded the Cylcone in. Since your cluster has a gear indicator, it has been replaced, as the 08s didn't come with one. Where is this dealer? I might be interested in the Cyclone after they fix it and put it up for sale. |

scroll down this forum - there's a thread for new owners... the solenoid was a fix for a EPA issue..there is post in the new owners thread. it's a good thing that you have gear indicator (came on 2009 models) the original '08 IC would drain the battery if you didn't shut down with the "kill" switch. when you buy a new battery suggest Li-Ion from Shorai...welcome |

also the dealer installed a battery tender lead, should i buy a tender? big one or little one, or should i just save that money for my next battery? |

yes to both on the battery/tender question. the 08's don't have the major charging issues the 09-10's do but still not the best system for street use. |

flash=the program that is written to the flash memory in the ECU=(engine control unit= the brains of the engine) it is mounted under the left pod cover...the dealer can "read" what version of the program you have "installed"....but don't get hung up on the latest flash - best bang for the buck is the EBR race ECU for what ever exhaust that is installed...go to the EBR site and look around |

You paid a pretty high price but way less than I did. I got the first 1125R in Colorado and paid $13.3k for it, almost 5 years ago... lotsa memories already. Plug in the tender once or twice a week, if it goes green in 30 minutes, you're good. Hope you can work on it yourself(we'll help) because HD shops are hit/miss. Shop I was at had some good techs, but you might get one of the "oil change" guys working on your bike. It's "only a Buell" after all. I hope Erik's new dealer network is better... Z |

> It's "only a Buell" after all. I used to chuckle when I'd hear one of the sales reps suggest the XB12 was an excellent beginner's machine, and they could "step up" to HD hardware once comfortable. Of course, these were the same people offering the advice to avoid the front brake because it was especially touchy. Yikes. |
