Do you guys think a small RFID type locater would work on our bikes?
And yeah, I'd be finding some punk ass kids in the hood around the corner from you and tell them there's some big $$$ in it if they help you get it back. |

Easily.
We use them to track thousands of pieces of material around a construction site. |

Anybody know the range of RFID?
Construction sites are an excellent use for RFID as it shows when a product is on-site and usage. |

RFID has limited range. In this case it might have helped as you can walk around the suspect neighborhood, but I'm not sure you could get close enough without trespassing. |

Lojacks are installed on bikes all the time.When I was at the dealership we offered them as an option. |

i feel like if i had a lowjack or other tracking device on my S1W it would've been recovered. Maybe thats wishful thinking, but my next bike WILL have one installed |

Oh please... i highly doubt anyone smart enough to steal a bike is dumb enough to leave on a low jack... Especially on a naked bike.
I wouldn't give yourself that much credit/grief. |

That's why I asked about RFID and the range. Really small and easy to hide, but if the range is only 20 feet, then it's worthless. |

i didn't know it took smarts to steal a bike.
I also didn't know it would be obvious that the bike is equipped w/ a lo jack, but i've never actually seen how ones installed, so maybe it is.
Their website says you can be alerted as soon as your bike moves. Unless the thief sits there and disables it, before stealing the bike, i don't see how this cant help

A "THIEF" can identify these things, "SO" if you can not hide it, they are of no use !!! |

My understanding about Lojack is that even the owner of the bike/car/truck/etc does not know where and how the device is installed. Now that being said installing a Lojack on a naked bike does present more of a challenge. |

That's supposed to be true. A friend has one installed, and they wouldn't let him watch them do it.
Not many places to hide things on a bike. |

+ one on leaving it where you can keep an eye on it.
However, mine is worth more stolen than it would be if I sold it. So I don't worry too much about it.
I love my Uly but at the end of the day, it's just a bike (& a few $$$ would come in handy right now, given the state of the economy!)

I managed to get an agreed value of $8000.00 from my insurance company for my bike with a little haggling . The insurance premiums are $29.50 per month or $354 a year. Why wouldn't you insure your bike at that rate?
The trouble is the cosmetic appeal of these bikes. Girls jump out off the footpath at it, so everyone wants one.
I'm thinking about carrying a big stick to beat them off. |

There are firms that allow you to use a mobile phone as a tracking device ... again the problem on a motorcycle is hiding the phone and charger or keeping it charged, easier to use in a car and in the UK you have to remember to use the phone at least once every 6 months to prevent the service provider withdrawing it's number. |
