well yesterday a fellow badwebber(eshardball) and i put a new barnett chlutch, clutch spring and branett cable on my x1. It feels and works awesonme, the only problem is that i can not get into neutral when the bike is running it only goes into neutral if i shut it off or when i have the clutch pulled in and coasting. The primary chain IS adjusted correctly and so IS the clutch as per the manual. i was wondering if i am missing anything or maybe it is cause there is only 130 miles on the mew clutch.

Try goosing the throttle slightly while gently nudging the shift lever. The increased vibrations generally helps overcome the drag in the clutch and friction in the shifter mechanism. That usually works for me with my Barnett clutch.

ok i will try that next time out, all i know is that i LOVE this clutch , it is hard to launch without standing straight up or stallingg i guess i need some more practice with it. I did notice that i need to use higher rpm to take off otherwise it stalle or make horrible close to stalling noises.

The very light application of force to the shifter with the light application of throttle thing does the trick for me.

Since I have my idle set to 950 or so, the application of throttle only raises the RPMs to 1100.
That's how little it takes. Just saying not to ROMP on it : )

I am also running the Barnette clutch and a baker smooth shift drum and it is way better than the stock set up ever wishes it could be. I have a Barnette clutch in 3 of my bikes and i will use no others.

Did you happen to soak the plates for a period of time before installing? Have used Barnett clutches for over forty years and never really had any problems with them. That's about twenty race bikes and a half dozen or so street bikes.
Adjustment is very key and not just the 1/8" clearance at the end.

"well the tiny blip of the throttle works to pop into neutral"

That's what I do all the time as second nature before approaching a stop or red light. Works every time.

if they are hard to find neutral, i just releaser clutch a bit more put a load on gear box & i can then get neutral. i have used Barnet they are ok, but if stock clutch works there is no performance gain with barnett , in fact slipping clutchs sometimes help performance as long as they don't just keep slipping.
