Replaced my Stator just last year. I'm pretty sure it shot again. I hear it rattling around in the Rotor. Have not open it up yet. Could be the rotor. If it is the stator, is there a better option than stock. I'm sick of this! Thanks |

It sounds like the nut may have came loose on the crank holding the rotor in place, check this first Ed |

Will do, but that wouldn't explain why it's not charging... would it? |

Well if it is loose enough that the rotor is not spinning it would but I would not think it could be that loose so you may have a point there. Remove the inspection cover and smell the oil if it smells like it has been on fire your stator is gone. |

Man, do NOT run that engine until you open up the primary and find out what's wrong. If that rotor came loose, it will quickly destroy the end of your crankshaft and then you'll really be screwed. If it was the magnets coming loose, they will do amazing amounts of damage in a short time and the shards of metal could end up in the transmission oil. It will do all kinds of damage to the transmission bearings, the primary chain and other parts. Don't guess. It's not worth the cost of a gasket and some oil to not know for sure. |

Took the primary off. The chain tensioner was shot. I would have bet It was the stator I heard. Had an extra one with a gasket. Put it back together with no problems. Fresh Mobil 1 20/50 synthetic...and done! The charging system problem turned out to be a broken wire coming off the regulator. Thank you for everyones input. |

"i" am still running my ORIGINAL OEM stator and regulator after 111,819.6 miles as of the last ride because: The primary chain is not adjusted too tight, as heat kills the stator(3/4 in. on the chain tight spot) ... The plastic on the chain adjusted lasts longer when the chain is not adjusted too tight ... Replace the battery before that last electron coming out kills something(stator or voltage regulator) ... Keep my battery on a BATTERY PLUS trickle charger when not riding(it has LED's to give me a hint when to replace the battery) ... "i" tie wrap my wiring so it is not doing the wiggle test when riding which causes mystery electrical problems ... |
