Does anyone know if TunerPro works with the EBR ECM? I'd like to gain some insight as to the ECM is doing with respect to timing and fueling. I am getting a lot of pinging when things heat up. I did get it with the stock ECM as well, but only if I was stuck in stop-and-go for a while. And it wasn't nearly as much. Now it will ping below 5000rpm under moderate load after a spirited ride. I also develop a very noticeable flat spot between 3500 and 4500 rpm when the engine is hot as well. The bike is much punchier when cold. |

Retarding a bit the timing should be the answer to the pinging |

I may be wrong but I do not think it does. EBR use there own prog and you have to buy it. You should not have any "ping" problems even on a stock bike? What grade fuel do you use. |

Check your timing but it needs to be "spot on" as per spec. Changing it to over come bad fuel is a "old school gag". Carbs yes EFI no. If you use a low grade fuel add a fuel booster. These bikes need the best you can get to perform at there best. Thats A FACT? |

Copied from one of my earlier posts ... You are running the highest octane you can get.....in this hot weather they all ping even with high octane. You can adjust the timing on 06 & 07's try STP octane booster. I have used Toulene added to the tank with some success. Try not to let the gas get real low in hot weather as the hotter the gas (and it can get screaming hot if the tank is low)the more likely it is to ping. here is the timing adjustment thread , this helped my 07 http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142838/315389.html American Sport Bike sells a kit to replace the rivets you have to drill out Cut and paste link http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/A9017.html (Message edited by wesman on August 07, 2012) (Message edited by wesman on August 07, 2012) |

I pulled the timing back on my '06, about half a notch, years ago (to understand "half a notch", pull your timing cover and you'll see). Helped immensely with pinging, it was simply too far advanced for real world (i.e. heat and traffic) riding. |

Looks like I have another project and another order to Al. I'm suffering the pings in hot weather as well. I always run either Shell or Sunoco 93. I do let the fuel light come on before filling tho. Thanks for the tips. |

I always pump premium fuel from brand name stations.I bought an additive last night that I'll try to see if it helps. Timing is spot on per spec. It is the first thing I checked. I may have some carbon buildup on the plugs that could be augmenting the issue. I'll see when I pull them this weekend. But I agree that the only solution is probably to retard the timing slightly. Thanks for the "half a notch" tip and the link for the rivet elimination kit. And thanks for all the helpful replies as usual! |

I have only been in 86F and both bikes have been ok. You guys can get a LOT higher temps I know. I use std fuel here which is 95. 93 is very low grade and you may well get pinging with it in hot weather. The 06 bikes run VERY hot and, of course, that heats up the gas tank/frame and fuel making the issue even worse. I still think that a better breathing can helps. My 06 bikes oil cooler never got hot so if I still had it I would make it work and also change it to the new 8 line matrix type. And fit the comfort kit with the ECM flash (if it can be done) or manual fan control. Getting lots of air over that engine works real well. Who knows you can only try your best. |

They don't "all" ping. I've never had a problem with pinging with either my original 07 engine or the 09 replacement engine, even in sustained 100 deg F + temps. Have you checked that the correct spark plugs are installed? If they are correct, going to a colder heat range plug might be worth a try. |

Yes they don't all ping, one of my 06's would ping a little on very hot days, the other 06 won't even ping ever, even when running 87. Uly_man, 93 is not low grade fuel, your country measures octane differently, just like they measure gallons and half a dozen other things differently yet use the same names. |

Just a thought on this one? The timing control is done via the ECM so the "static" timing should be as per spec because it is its ref point. As the engine gets hotter the timing will change. My 06 bike had a timing issue caused by the Earth ground problem. The bike would work but I always felt "something" was not quite right with it. What would happen is if, once hot, I turned the engine off and back on the engine would run better. After some testing I thought this was a timing issue. It felt like is was not changing which seemed very strange and was making me crazy. Anyway one day the bike died on me and I fixed the ground issue. After that it was no problem. In fact it was like a whole new bike? The thing is though it is something that would be easy to think might be a bad plug, fuel or a million other things and not what it was. Bad fuel and/or timing will cause pinging. Just a thought. |

"Uly_man, 93 is not low grade fuel, your country measures octane differently, just like they measure gallons and half a dozen other things differently yet use the same names." I did not know about the fuel. Thanks. Something else to confuse the mix. |

your country measures octane differently Froggy is right, Ulyman. If the Brits use the RON figure, then what I am pumping is equivalent to 98 Queen's Octane. Still pinging like hell with the new ECM. |

The ground might be something. Mine will hesitate sometimes when I start it. Another thing to check/fix. |

"Froggy is right, Ulyman. If the Brits use the RON figure, then what I am pumping is equivalent to 98 Queen's Octane. Still pinging like hell with the new ECM." Something not right with it then. I used 98 RON a few times in the 06 bike and it made it run better with more mpg as well. My 06 bike would "purr" along on it but it costs a lot to buy here. "Mine will hesitate sometimes when I start it." They all do I think. My 2010 is better the 06 was not very good to crank over. Tried everything as well. No go but good luck. |
