I purchased a used 2009 R recently to do track days. The bike has 2,500 miles still with the stock tires. The tread life is still good but I'm wondering if I should just replace them because they have been on the bike for 4 years. I did one track day on those tires with no big issues. I felt a bit of slippage but I had not decreased the tire pressure from the street. The only serious heat cycles those tires have seen would have been by my single track day. The bike had never been tracked before that. Thoughts on age vs. tread life? |

Yes, because I had to replace my 08 and I found a 09 with only 120 miles on it. I am also a bit suspect of the age of the tires, and after about 2k on them I lost the front on a corner and went down recently (broken thumb, $800 damage, sob@#!@$). I don't know if I can blame the tires or not, but I am probably not going to chance it and just replace them Diablo III's are discontinued Lot's of good choices depending on what you really want to do I like the Dunlop Q2's - top rated tire, great stick, faster turn in, low cost, but do wear out quick (Message edited by sprintst on August 02, 2012) |

I still have the stock tires and they are 4 years old. Still have great tread life. I am not one who can tell the difference between tires. They all feel the same to me but I don't corner hard and rarely push the bike beyond 80mph. |

I still have the stock tires with 4400 miles on an 08. I ride mine pretty hard in the corners, but the straight grid roads of oklahoma will be the reason I probably get new tires next year (center's starting to flatten out). |

I don't know how anybody manages anywhere near 4K on the stock tyres .............the CR ate the stock rears in less than 2500 miles thats why i switched to BT023's the rear did around 7K on those. |

I guess it's the road surface around here because I think I ride in a normal sporty way, and no burnouts at all, but -1700 on the stock tires and -2500 on 023's. You guys ride on smooth concrete freeways or what? |

Don't know. I ride pretty sporty, but I'm pretty regular about checking the tire pressures. I keep about 1/4" chicken strips on my rear tire. |

Nuts, that is a great price on tires. Do you know if they are good for track days? Now that I have a family, my thing is maximum grip so I was thinking of getting Michelin Power Ones when I do change tires. I guess if I'm expecting to go to the track, I should just change them. I don't know how long people trust tires at the track. Thanks for the input. |

I'm pushing 6000 miles on the stock Corsa 3 tires and the threads are about to start showing. Going with Pilot Road 3's next. You can find sets for around $300 for the PR3 and PP3 from motorcyclesuperstore.com. |

Thanks for the input. I may be sold on a set of S20s. If Dave Moss will push them on an R1, I figure they will stay planted for me. Good to know about motomummy.com also. |

Dave was good enough to come down (SanDiego) to a monthly meetings at a local club I belong to...he has some of his Utube work on a DVD - ( I imagine you can down load it from utube too) which along with a laptop you watch at the track to help tune your suspension ...what's funny is that if we go to the track - everyone runs around checking each others tires!...good stuff! |

Damn, I don't know what I've been doing right, but I've put 5000 miles on the original tires, and that's with doing a LOT of wheelies... Still, the back tire is starting to show a bit of a flat stripe in the middle, so a new rear is probably on the horizon. |

When you guys can match my 18,000 miles on a Pirelli, call me Ok that was on Scorpion Syncs, but I was getting around 6500-7000 miles a set on the Diablo Corsa III's. |

On the 1125 we should be bragging about low miles, not high. I toasted the first rear tire in 1600 miles, and 600 of those miles were break in. If u are riding the bike any where near its potential, u should be blowing through rear tires, and be happy about it. |

I'm not really concerned about the mileage but more concerned about the traction ability as it has been exposed to the elements and potentially getting less tacky over the 4 years it has been mounted. At full lean angle, I want to have confidence in the tire's ability. So, since no one is telling me that tires dry out or become less capable at this age, maybe they are worth more trust than I'm giving them? |

If you are paying for them, then sure, but I like getting more than just a long weekend out of a $400+ set of tires. Also, just about nobody here can ride their bike near its potential, and the ones that can aren't doing it on the street.

Yes, I've beat the snot out of bikes with 8 year old tires on them. You will be fine. |

x1, I doubt you are going to find the answer you are looking for. If by full lean angle you mean dragging your pegs, that one is up to you. Your bike setup and riding style are different than everyone here. Tires are subject to age, heat cycles, humidity, sun damage etc. Then there's track conditions: temp, humidity, debris, rubber on the racing line among others. Be careful and have fun. New tires are much cheaper than new parts + new tires. |

X1, I 'd be worried them getting hard when they start aging too much. I check mine once in a while to see if I can still stick my finger nail in it. If so, still soft and grippy. |

I keep my bike in the garage. So the only sun they get is when it's getting ridden or parked at work. I'm not worried about sun damage personally. |

even at 1600 miles on the rear that's more then a long weekend. The fronts last about 4-6k. I got my last pirelli diablo III for $150, and I install tires my self, so its not $400. Its cool that you like getting 50mpg out of the 1125. But why bother riding an 1125 if all you want is high mpg? I'm proud when i get it down to 32 mpg. Its like buying a Ferrari and complaining about the fact you have to change the tires a lot. You know an 883 sporty will get 55mpg even if you rev the nuts off it? |

Hey Brett! If you decide that you don't trust those tires and end up replacing them, I'd be happy to dispose of them for you! I live in KC as well! Might have to meet up and ride together one of these days! Enjoy the new bike! |

Worst crash I had on my street 1125R was on a set of Pirellis that looked brand new but had sat in a warm garage for 2+ years. They had almost 0 grip. Do not risk your life on old rubber. It's just not worth it. (Message edited by Rodrob on August 04, 2012) |

My first and only crash at the track so far (knock on wood) was with using the stock tires, bike was built in Sept 2006, my third or fourth track day at Barber in Nov 2009 (bought the bike in Aug 2009) the front just went on me in turn five, a slow left hairpin, fractured a rib and screwed up my head for the next several track days for a while. I never skimp on tires, get the best, $250-$300 a set is worth saving your butt! |

Is that SBN old guy? If you're doing 3-5 track days on a set of Diablos you're insane and begging for a crash! No offense. The Pirelli rep at VIR the last time I was there was handing out literature that reccomended (research this it's been a while) the insanely low pressure of 23PSI cold, which at 150F track temp came up to 32-36 hot. It made a world of difference! To the guy who started the thread, I was in the same boat, and mine seemed fine, I replaced the rear because I ran over a huge bolt. They're fine on the street but I wouldn't attempt a second track day on them. Get a set of supercorsas or something for the track, and finish off the stockers on the street. When Diablos get slutty they get real slutty all at once. The Rosso 2 is the newer version of the Diablo, I just replaced the holed rear and it's great so far. The Rosso Corsa would be the direct replacment for the Corsa3. I did exactly 1 and a half track days on a C3 with my old SV1000 before the rear gave out and totalled the bike. My riding style was moderate entry speed ont he SV and extreme drive off apex, you may net be that brutal on the rear tire but that's my two cents. I've never run anythig BUT Pirellis. OE tires are never as good as outright buying the same model, risking a 2nd track day on those tires is a bad idea, though I think they're fine for the street. As far as the mileage issue, my SV destroyed C3's within 3K miles, Diablos in about 4. The old Stradas would make 7ish before threads. The 1125 is known to be really easy on tires, I've even seen it listed as a plus at Daytona on the RR's due to the "soft" power hit and lack of low end torque, at least compared to other liter twins. The OE tire was at 4K when I holed it but I don't think the original owner rode hard the 2K miles he had it. I'll report the exact mileage of the Rosso2 when it gets slutty. As far as being proud of wasting a rear after 1500 miles, the CR has steeper gearing than the R. Thus it will eat tires faster. Also, I don't see the joy you get from roasted tires, I like to actually ride. (Though I fully commend your badass enthusiasm!) Nothing pissed me off more than stickey rubber being shagged at 2500 miles. Then again I don't ride as hard as I used to. Shewww, if I could get 10 thousand miles out of a soft slick on the street I'de shure enough run it! |

I am at 5,300 miles on stock tires. I am the original owner so I know for sure. I will be leaning towards a new set at the beginning of next season. No real apparent reason other then age is why I am replacing them. |

I was very happy with the Q2s on my 1125. I think they're a good match for the bike, for street & light track use. I moved to Road 3s since touring is about all I do on it lately. |

I've been thru a few sets of C-IIIs on Loretta, she has 28k miles. Rears have lasted from 5- 8.5k miles each. I'm on set# 5 now, I think. First front lasted 19, 994 miles, successors have lasted around 5k. THAT makes no sense to me. Most miles lately have been commuting, so I have been running "Froggy pressures" around 50psi cold. |

I am not sure why it was mentioned that the Bridgestone S20 is a track tire? It is a comparable street tire (Q2,2CT etc.) and will last as such, maybe longer...The 003RS is their track/street tire... |
