Price ain't to bad, but you do realize to install requires complete disassembly and boring the cases. |

I highly would not even bother Unless I knew what manufacture those cylinders were... Also, at that point, you'll need head work to gain the advantage of filling the extra volume... |

By the description it sounds like they're talking about this 90 kit http://www.revperf.com/Buell1200/1200Perform.html Mid way down the page for $999 I don't know the company but that doesn't mean anything. I'd contact the seller with questions before buying and look into the manufacturer. I know NHRS makes good stuff but they're kit is a few hundred more, so you gotta ask why. Could be they are doing things cheap or they could be getting a better price from their supplier you never know but worth looking into. |

That kit uses nikasil plated all aluminum cyls. I have an Axtell 88" kit in my S3 with iron liners. I was cautioned by 2 reputable engine builders to be cautious when considering nikasil cyls. both Johnson engine technology in RI(they did my heads) and Dan at NRHS said that cyls. of this type distort more when hot causing loss of ring seal. I think NRHS has an article about it. Boring the cases for a 3.812 cyl will take away a lot of base gasket surface but mine stayed oil toght. boring the case for a 3.875 cyl would leave even less base gasket surface and makes me think the cylinder skirt that extends into the case will be very thin. That said I can tell you that after several thousand miles the wear patterns inside the Axtell cyls. were way less than a stock 1200(better ring seal). I can tell you this , even a mild 88" kit will give you diesel like power. With a square bore and stroke the engine seems to rev easier although that could be the extra displacement. using lightning cams the engine pulls hard all the way through the power band. there is no hit in the top end like wtih a stock 1200, just grunt the whole way through. Much fun!! |
