in the fsm the valve adjustment calls for the rotation of the engine in the running direction to position the cams for valve clearence inspection, OK kids which way is the right way as viewed from the alternator side of the engine? I think that its COUNTER CLOCK WISE as the clutch is geared to the crank and would rotate in the opposite direction, when that force is applied to the gear sets (1-6) the direction reverses again, I think that the rear wheel and crankshaft turn in the same direction, can any one confirm as it is not spelled out in the fsm } |

with the plugs out and the alternator side of the engine open - put it in gear and turn the rear wheel (in the direction which would result in forward motion) - watch the flywheel...which way does it turn?...or if it's hooked up - put it back in neutral and ...hit the starter. it's been my experience that checking valve clearance - rotation of the engine doesn't come into play - if you were setting cam chain tension with manual tensioners...then you need know which way the crank rotates. |

Thanks Rodrob, It made sense to me as I worked thru it in my head ( been wrong before ) it's been my experience that checking valve clearance - rotation of the engine doesn't come into play I can agree with that BUT My understanding from reading the setting procedure is that the crank is to be turned in the direction of rotation, ( running direction ) I knew I could "figure it out" I hoped some one knew Thanks all. } |

I've turned mine slowly both directions without breaking it. |

Thanks PM I wondered about the starter clutch as a possible issue, I dont want to beak any thing on this bike. |
