I have a 95 S2 with SE coil, module, reworked heads and carb. It runs great, but I have noticed on 2 occasions that the bike just died, for about 1/2 a second as I was excellarating and then back to normal. I tried to snap the throttle a few times to reproduce it, but can not. Does anyone have any suggestion on what it could be?

Did it happen during cruising speed, turning around approx. 3,500rpm?

I'd suggest doing a TPS reset first.

Carbureted bikes do not have TPS sensors.

If it happened at cruising it was the buell cough very common have yet to find the fix

These COUGHS occur as the carburetor transitions from one jetting area to another ...

Of course these overlap each other and what helps pin point just where, is to mark your throttle to closed, 1/4. 1/2, 3/4, and WOT so you have a visible reference point to start with ...

The Buell 'cough', eh ? I wonder what that bike is dong while I am away.

So much for my attempt at humor.

I was certain that it was an electrical gremlin, but I will have to keep an eye on when and where it cuts out in the future.

You list ignition 'stuff'...how's the carb set up? Jets? A/F screw setting?

2.5 turns out on the air screw, 45/190 for jets.

Maybe I will run some carb cleaner through the tank and keep my eye on it, as well as check all ignition connections.

It could be the Screaming Eagle module I had one on a FXRS that would do the same thing it was like it just didn't run for a few turns of the crank. Put the stock module back on never happened again.

have you added a fuel filter?

i had one on the S1W and at high speeds it would act like it ran out of gas, shut down quick at speed.

pulled the filter off, no more stalling.

other than that, maybe a bad ground somewhere.

On a more positive note, I her for 2.5 hours today with no problems. I plan on a massive 8 hour ride this weekend (when my wife is at her mom's). I figure that will get rid of the old gas and get her back in shape (with a little Seafoam).

Could also check the fuel tank vent. If its clogged, you'll build vacuum in the tank as you use fuel. That will starve it. Next time it does it, pop the flip-tab on your gas cap and see if that lets it run again.

You WERE referring to the bike, right?

On a serious note, does anybody else run an in-line fuel filter? I just rebuilt the carb on my RS and on test runs the bike also cuts out. If it sits for a few minutes it will fire back up and run a little further. I was thinking it might be a starvation problem, but didn't think a filter would impact it that much.

since these carb bikes don't have a fuel pump of any type, the filter needs to flow very well with only gravity pressure!

remove it, put a barb fitting in for a test.

My S2 acted really strange, swapping the CB's fixed it.

I had an intermittent cutout at highway speeds, one second. Turned out to be a worn out HD ignition switch. Replaced it with an off brand switch and the problem stopped.

Just reading this, my M2 00 has coughed a few times. its strange as i also have a twin cam dyna that uses a cv carb too. but the dyna has never done that, i though at first might have opened throtle at too low rev ( 2,500 ). i'm getting my m2 ready for a two week ride & putting a bobby wood cv44 i have had for a while. as it will bolt on uses same air cleaner & its a very good carb to dial in as the main jets go up in one thou increasements, it uses a stepped needle that helps gas mileage, it also uses a larger float bowl. but i don't expect a power gain as stock motor. just felt the cv40 on it was on lean side but i'm leaving it as i got it. will see if it coughs too.
also though i'd mention the woods carb had a different size air bleed, it's a larger airbleed so intermediate jet goes further before main jet comes in, runs a richer intermediate jet, nice smooth runing carb too.

I am with Brad, on the S-2's the circuit breakers are prone to odd gremlins when they start to go. Always carried spares from local auto parts stores----though the ignition switches can be a booger too, that key switch hanging off the side not good.

I rode it today, and it ran flawlessly, but I did notice that the switch was very hot (very, on the back side), it was hot out today and it is right by the jug so? Does anyone know how to test a switch to see if it is going?

FYI: I verified my problem is NOT fuel. I "engineered" a sight glass so I could see the fuel level in the bowl and took it for a short ride. When it cut out/died I immediately shut off the ignition (shutting off the fuel solenoids (RS)) and checked the "sight glass". Bowl was full. The ignition switch was HOT, so my next step will be to check it with a "spare" switch or jumper it completely.
