A couple weeks ago my bike would stall after a hot re-start. (Gas stop, lunch break, etc.) If I kept the rpm's above 2000 a couple minutes it would idle ok. The problem is getting worse, the bike will stall, barely idle cold or hot now. Runs ok under load over 2500 rpm. Any ideas what to check? 15,000 miles stock ecm new iridium plugs no CEL |

The 09 has an idle air valve on them. This could be malfunctioning. I have an 06 so I don't know much about it but I have read on here of folks having to replace them. |

"new iridium plugs". Did the problem start before or after the plugs were installed? Are the plug wires fully seated? Or a problem with one of the new plugs? |

Plugs have been in a couple months, re-checked connections and intake seals. Problem is worse after a hot start. Bike will start, idle for a few seconds and stall. If I can keep the rpm's up it seems to do ok. Ride it for a few miles and it will usually idle again. I was thinking IAC. Can it be tested? Easy to replace? Thanks. |

Been saving my $$$ and was ready to order an EBR, hope I can solve this problem and still get the ecm. I'm not a master mechanic but been working on bikes most of my life. Carbs, points, plugs, brakes, clutches, tires, etc. are no problem. This is my first FI bike and am sometimes at a loss when there is a problem. |

Any problem with these bikes, a guy can say "ECM" and nail it 70% of the time. Even though 83% of the statistics on the internet are made up, in this case I agree with Ironhead. |

"Any problem with these bikes, a guy can say "ECM" and nail it 70% of the time. Even though 83% of the statistics on the internet are made up, in this case I agree with Ironhead." That's pretty much sums up most of what I've read. Mine died today out on the road and I think it's probably the ECM, it started right up after sitting for 20min. Had a FJR do the same thing |

I'm ordering the EBR ecm, already have a K&n air filter on the way from American Sportbike. When my bike was new I ordered the original tall seat for it and it doesn't contact the ecm. Hopefully this will take care of the problem. Thanks for the help. |

@ Buellmeister,, we could have saved everyone a lot of time by combing my thread "'08 stopped running" with yours. I bought a EBR ECM as well |

I'm ordering the EBR ecm Chances are good that the new ECM will fix your problem. Good luck. |

UPDATE.....I ordered the EBR ecm and a K&N air filter. Bike is running much better now. The exhaust popping on decel is gone! With the stock ecm, the bike would usually fire up on the first or second revolution of the motor, now it seems to turn over 3 or 4 times before starting. I'm happier (and poorer) now. |

While it may or may not have been a contributor, a good cleaning of the IAC motor and its home is a good thing to do. Cleared up a poor idle issue I had last week. Very easy to do once you get the air filter base plate off. Use q-tips and alcohol or carb cleaner and really wipe that place out. Cannot hurt. |

If you have a sensor that's malfunctioning, even a little, a new ECM will BAND-AID the problem for a while...but the fact remains that you still have a malfunction in the system. Personally, I prefer to actually track down the problem and FIX IT, before I go throwing upgrade/different parts at the system. But maybe that's just me. |

Did you check the stock ecm for cracks when you changed it out? Our XT's stock ecm was cracked, and one theory was it started as a hairline fracture and worsened with time (vibrations). The bike became unrideable with that ecm. The other thing to consider is doing an ecm relocation. You can do the highly unscientific play-doh test to see if anything is rubbing on your ecm. Do a search here on badweb. The mister said the ecm relocation was easy peasy to do. Good luck and happy rides. |

The bike runs really well now, but the idle is not as good as it was before this problem started. I'm going to try and clean the IAC. Thanks for all the help. |

Another update. I cleaned the IAC as suggested. Q-tips and carb cleaner, had a good bit of carbon/crud in there. Bike is idling much better now. Anybody ever spray cleaner in the throttle body and throttle plate? |

I TOLD YOU!!! Kidding! Let's all put the screwdrivers down... Looks like our problems were kinda similar. I sprayed Sea Foam in the throttle body while it was hot and idling. Ran well after that. Not too much, just enough to get that crud out and maybe lube the plate a bit. |

Howdy Holligans: It's been so long now...but as I recall cleaning the IAC as mentioned, made a huge diff, and not that hard to do. Also used to get carbon 'bathtub' ring around T-body, where throttle plate attached. Cleaning IAC & TB really smoothed out the idle on my 08'. Also about every 10th tank or so, would add Techron - could be my imagination, or placebo effect, but seemed to run better. |
