i`m considering to buy a buell s1. the owner says it is a buell s1 pro series limited edition. to me it looks like a stock yellow buell s1 .the only difference i notice is a sticker with : pro series limited edition 2 on it. does anyone know if this a limited edition and what is different compared to other stock buell s1? | ||

odd... what year? Black cylinder heads, or silver? Manta or skinny tank? Breadbox or CF hamcan intake? What exhaust? I'm not aware of any official "editions", but it could (?) be a retired race bike? The term "Pro Series" was simply the name for the factory performance parts - billet footpegs, carbon fiber intake, "race" header and muffler, performance ignition box...someone may have simply rebadged it because they had a lot of the performance parts on it. | ||

i think you are right about it being rebadged. i already know about the pro series parts,but can`t notice any of them on the s1. -silver heads -silver engine(not polished). -skinny tank -grey frame -yellow body parts | ||

Then it has Pm Wheels (good), original recall showa shock (bad), Pro Series Race Intake (good, but backing plate is flexie) and carbon fiber V&H (or Bolara) muffler and S1 heads (slightly better than stock but not as good as Thunderstorms). Looks like a nice stock, regular bike with some add ons. There were no Pro Series bikes, aside from the non street legal Series of Champions bikes, which can not be registered for the street (from what I hear). If it is that clean, buy it, but not at a premium, buy it at regular pricing. | ||

Buell did offer S1 special edition bikes for Europe only, but I cannot remember a "Pro Series" Edition... I guess it is stock with Pro Series add-ons. | ||

Gave the seller a call and asked him why he thinks his s1 is a pro series because i never heard from them before. He told me that they are made in a limited series by the european distributor . They took some stock buells. Painted them the same color and ad some pro series parts. He owns two pro series s1 and even has a magazine with a article about it.the one he is selling doesn't have all the pro series parts anymore. Not going to buy it ,since i found a black buell s1 white lightning.the seller told me it's a original black white lightning.if it is a original black s1w it is 1 of 58 produced ,if i'm not mistaking( going to check the VIN) Except for the aircleaner,rear fender,exhaust And mirrors its stock. saturday i'm going to take a look and might even buy it  . If i buy it , i'm going to replace the aftermarket parts for oem parts to bring it back to stock. | ||

He told me that they are made in a limited series by the european distributor . They took some stock buells. Painted them the same color and ad some pro series parts. Sounds a bit wrong to me. There was no European distributor for Buell until H-D took over the distribution in late 1997/early 1998, so bikes brough in before that date were private imports or brought in by indivudal H-D dealers such as Just Harleys in Newcastle. I have never heard of or seen a European model Pro Series S1 (and I have been around European Buells for a long time, having bought one of the first imported 96 S1's!). Yellow was not an option offered on UKI/Euro S1 models as far as I am aware. Most of the early small tank models here were silver or black. The majority of Buell S1's sold in Europe were the later S1W models with the larger 'Manta' tank, so I wouldn't be too sure about the limited number of 58 sold. A lot have been messed around with and parts changed by now so it is getting hard to tell what is an S1 and what is an S1W at first look. The original 1996/7 S1 bikes brought to Europe had PM front brakes and Brembo rears. Later ones had Nissin calipers all round, so this is a good way to check as owners seldom go sa far as to change calipers | ||

The Pro Series was was on all White Lightnings. Quite often S1 buyers would ask for the Pro Series upgrade. I did on my '97 S1. Which I bought new and still have and will die with and/or on. Back to the point. The Pro Series was upgraded heads, bigger valves, painted black, the stock S1 heads were silver. Cam shafts with slightly different lifts and duration. Upgraded exhaust front to rear and no heat shields. The stock heat shields would not work and no way to make them work. A carbon fiber air filter that had the same shape as old Sporty's and Super Glides. Thereby eliminating the big bread box air filter. Finally a different ignition module that allowed a few hundred extra rmp's on top end. I bought my S1 stock and ordered the Pro Series kit at time of sale. After 3 months the kit came in and I had the dealer install it. I felt some difference. Faster and louder. Not exactly gigantic, just enough to tell something was pleasantly different. I did not have it on a dyno before so I can only give the dyno numbers for after. 88.6 hp and 89.8 torque. I am very sure of my information because I did not get it by heresay or second hand. In '97 I eagerly tried to find out everything I could about Buells and what would improve them or pooch them. With the exception of stroking the only good and reliable way to make them perform better was the Pro Series kit. All the other different mixtures of carbs and exhausts just seemed to be detrimental to their performance. But hey ! I am just a 60+ year old man who may be suffering from dementia. But riding that old Buell around makes me feel like I suffer from temporary bouts of sanity. | ||

Creetusfram: What you wrote made me feel good as "i" just tuned my 1997 S3T and came with in 10 on both and all "i" did was tune what came off the show room floor ... There is no telling what the figures would have been if "i" had wanted to spend a little money so it would pump more air ??? | ||
