Damn! My water pump seal is oozing (a lot) out of the bleed hole again. Time-wise, said seal was replaced over a year ago, when the bike was still under warranty. But in terms of mileage, there's only 2500 miles on the supposedly new-style seal. Of course, my warranty has expired, and replacing the seal requires rotating the motor, so I'm a bit frustrated. Has anybody else had recurring problems with water pump seals? I'm running OEM coolant, replaced every couple of years, BTW. |

John, can't help with that. But I thought I had a leak too when mine was new. I saw the "white coolant line" extending down from the weep hole. I believe it came out of the factory that way because there isn't any leaks. Here is what I'd do...monitor your coolant every couple of days until you know how much coolant per 100/500/1k miles you go through. Then, if you can, wait until you need to do your first valve check/shim adjust and do the water pump while you're in there! Best wishes (Message edited by two_seasons on July 12, 2012) |

The shop you had repair your water coolant gasket does not stand behind their work? 2500 miles for it to go bad sounds like shady job or maybe a bad water pump instead of a seal (bad diagnosis) Have you talked to the manger or harley support. (Message edited by 1125rcya on July 13, 2012) |

>>>The shop you had repair your water coolant gasket does not stand behind their work? They have a 90-day warranty and I am WAY beyond that. But you're right, 2500 miles is bogus for a critical function like, say, coolant retention. Talked to Harley support today, and they will cover parts (almost $450 bucks, believe it or not) but not labor. At 6 hours, that'll come out to well over $600, but at least it's an option.... My real question is this: Has anybody else had recurrent problems with their water pump seal? (In other words, can I expect this to happen every 2500 miles?) |

The motor has to be rotated. I suppose I could ask to see the flat rate book, but this dealership (unlike others) hasn't screwed me before. (Or should I say "yet"?). |

Sometimes you have to cut your losses and venture to the dark side..no harley support! Your in cali so I dont see a problem with finding someone who has raced 1125's and is willing to work on your bike for a fraction of the cost that harley would charge + would have the proper tools! Your still getting the parts for free |

Usually the free part offer requires they do the labor. At least in my experience. |

Boogi is correct, at least in my case. Nevertheless, I have a choice: Either (1) do it myself and spend $450 on parts, or (2) have the dealer do it and spend $600-$700 on labor.... Given that I work 50 hours a week, and I'm a single dad to boot, I reckon choice (2) is probably more realistic. That's life, sometimes. I still love the bike (never had anything that could do third-gear wheelies before -- Yee-Hah!). I just hope this doesn't turn out to be a recurring problem.... |

6hrs to change the water pump? My pump was done under warranty @ 300 Kms and workshop quoted 10 hours with engine rotate. |

Just wish the dealers would go a little further into the manual and see where it's faster to pull the entire top of the bike off. |

Changing the needed parts is a big job, you have to remove the inner water pump housing, not just that outer cover. What you really want/need is the 2010 model housing and pump assembly. Replacing the internals of your current design wont be a permanent fix. I had to change the pump on my race bike, big job, but not overly difficult. |
