well, after a painfully long down time, my '03 984 motor is coming back together with the 1050 kit. I was just wondering if anyone knows if there would be any point or benefit to 'upgrade' to the 12 throttle body? or would this be pointless? just curious, thanks for any responses and hopefully i'll have some 'work in progress' pics to post soon.. Do you have a 12 TB? Mine seems to be running pretty well with a 12TB and 1050 kit and stock XB9 muffler. There will be some tricky tuning to get the full use of everything when you whack the throttle open, but just datalogging with your favorite tool will get it running pretty nice. I'm still working on the proper amount of acceleration enrichment and WOT enrichment. If you have time send the injectors out to be rebuilt or if you have the cash buy new injectors. thx for the response greg, i don't have a 12 tb yet, i figured if needed i'd snag one here or off the bay. I had assumed ECMspy tuning would be all i needed to pretty much get the tuning down for it, i didn't realize it would be a little more involved.. |

If you're not pulling the air through it, you might not need it until you start putting bigger valves, taller cams and spinning the motor at a more constant higher speed. The 12 thottle (trying hard to remember if it was 04) - the TB uses newer injectors where the spray is more down the throat than the 03 XB9 |

i know what u mean Mr. Steve, i'm not doing any more to the motor, other than cleaning up the heads a bit. stock cams and valvetrain, its strickly a street bike. Thats why i was even wondering if there was any point at all to go with the bigger TB... might just be pointless, at this stage |

I think you may want to have the injectors serviced whether you get a different TB or not, they do wear during operation. As the injectors that are in my 12TB have a little angled sprayer to help spray down the throat, that's why I had them serviced instead of buying new. Also note that the 03 and earlier injectors are different than the later style with the larger TB. Pretty sure they went to larger TB on all the later XB9 cycles, not sure when they did it. If I can get the acceleration enrichment right, it has a lot more power than before the rebuild. How much of that is the TB and 1050 kit and how much is just running right I don't know. If you see a 12TB cheap it might be worth buying, if not then don't worry about it. Both style injectors flowed the same amount when I had them serviced so it's not like the newer style actually flow more fuel. The switch back to synthetic oil made a big difference again, no more tan puke coming out of the catch can. Went with Mobile 1 4T this time because I thought the 20/50 was a little thick for most of the year here. |
