I know this has been touched on before, but searching on a blackberry is...frustrating. 09 CR, no CEL, seems to happen only when hot (ambient plus engine). Doesn't always happen, but if it does, its only when hot. I'll be riding along and all of a sudden I catch the shift light coming on, and there's a big goose-egg for my speed. Sometimes whacking the throttle open/closed and making the bike buck can bring it back, but more often than not I just get to wait for it to cooperate. I'm going to guess, given the normal parameters, this is a heat-soak issue? Or is it like the tubers, and its just time to pull the sensor and get metal off the magnet? If its heat/electronic failure, has an updated VSS been issued (i.e. A part number I should look for)? | ||

No metal shavings to clean off. Even tried insulation to keep heat away from VSS. Just get a new VSS. Replaced mine last year and haven't had it do it again. BTW routing that cable sucks. | ||

X2 for the new speed sensor. Same thing happened to my bike, the replaced the instrument cluster, didn't help then changed the VSS...You would think they would start with the cheaper fix first. good luck. |
