2002 P3 Blast 2,800 miles on it.

Petcock reserve is the only position that feeds gas into motor.

Reg setting Doesn't work
Reserve works
Off = Off

Not a big issue unless i run out of gas.

I'm gonna continue to F*ck with it and help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
voltage

unless i missed a line or something idk whats wrong with this. its not a huge problem unless i dont keep gas in the tank. i downloaded the manual for my year but havent seen anything. i hope that someone may have some insight into this.
I also found that this model is very easy to work on and maintain thats why this is confusing me. im heading out now 8am to take another look. i guess if i cant fix it not that big of a deal.
Thanks,
Voltage

ok so i just pulled off the and the screen is clean. next step is disassemble it whe i find a screw driver small enough to take the petcock apart

If you keep going maybe someone else will eventually join your thread. May I ask the obvious question - did you have enough gas in the tank to get it off reserve in the first place?

Assuming this petcock is like the ones for the other line of Buells, the internal valve piece may be worn or stuck to where the lever doesn't rotate it into the "On" position.

Can you disassemble it and put it together in the On position, then check if it flows gas? If it does then you need to put it the Reserve position and see if that works. And if it does not work when put back in the On position, then you need to find out why the lever doesn't operate it like it should.

Might need some new parts inside it.

On my M2 the "ON" tube was so long I would have to switch over way to soon to "RES". So make sure you do have enough gas in the tank to reach the top of the main tube. I ended up cutting about an inch off the main tube and still have plenty on reserve to limp back. I wanted to get at least 150mi before filling or going to "RES".

I drove up about 1/8 of a mile to top it off. (about a gallon) and made it back home with it on the on position. idk if there was enough gas in the line or if its working. ill check it out tomorrow with a longer run and test gas line. there should have been about a half of tank in there so the amount of fuel shouldnt have been an issue. but after i drained it i didnt put a lot back into the tank. so maybe the cleaning and rebuild fixed it. ill update tomorrow. and btw kilroy i was keeping it updated so people knew exactly what i had done and tried so they had the whole picture of the problem instead of just blindly throwing options/fixes at me.

Oh, I understand. I wasn't trying to be a smarta$$, I was trying to coax somebody that might know the answer to chime in and give you some help. We are usually faster than that to jump in, and it seemed odd to me - that is all. Hope you got it fixed.

I hope its fixed. im about to take it for a spin and see if it runs out of gas on me. i can always switch it to reserve (if on doesnt work). I just like having the peace of mind knowing i have the reserve if i forget to fill or ride till the tank is empty.

I always reset my trip odometer after each fill. And I leave it on the trip odometer so I will know when to stop again. You have to look at the speedo all the time anyway.

i do that with my cars. idk how many miles i get to the gallon. Everything seemed to have been working ok last night. then this morning i was riding with it on and it started acting up. so i put it on reserve. about 20 seconds later it straightened up. with 2800 miles on it i figured the person before me couldn't have screwed it up that much (the bike in general). but the more i dig into it, it looks like i could be wrong. :-) I'm gonna consider the problem fixed for now since it seems to be working. Thanks for the help guys

One of mine was acting up like I was having fuel problems (which I did fix)and I happened to pull the plugs later (after having additional running issues) and they looked sooty. I did fix the fuel prob. but it carboned the plugs also. After they were changed it worked fine.
