Just wondering if anyone has one for their bike. There are always those who go around stealing people's oil cap. I did a quick google and came across this and it looks pretty nice http://www.motovationusa.com/mvstore/scripts/prodV iew.asp?idproduct=487 |

Are dipstick thefts that much of a problem? One of those Rizoma caps will pay for an awful lot of dipsticks. |

When the chart says "Buell-all" I've got a strong suspicion that's for the Sportster-based motors... And if someone is going through the trouble to try to siphon oil out of a motorcycle sitting someplace, I also suspect they will be likely to just steal the whole bike. And, you live in Canada, pretty safe place eh? Paranoid much? (Message edited by duphuckincati on June 16, 2012) (Message edited by duphuckincati on June 16, 2012) |

Well it has nothing to do with Canada being safe or not. There is always a place of opportunity for theft/vandals. It may not be someone's intent to steal your bike, but just to get a kick out of something as simple as taking your dipstick. Its kinda like people stealing car hood ordainments back when they were popular. It has happened to my friend where someone took his dipstick after he parked somewhere and didnt realize it was gone until he was on the highway having his right leg soaked in hot engine oil. Even if you did notice it gone, what are you going to do to get home? Maybe I should just carry a spare stick in case it does happen. |

I've never had a theft of something as mundane as an oil fill cap, but it could happen and that would ruin your day. Consider this -- if you just cut the big tab off of the top of the dipstick you could convert it into something totally undesirable to thieves. It wouldn't have the big paddle on it to make it easy to remove, it wouldn't have the word "Buell" on it, and it would be so difficult to remove that you'd need a "key" to remove it -- like the locking style dipsticks. If you really wanted to, I'm thinking you could accomplish the same thing that the expensive custom caps offer by just cutting the paddle off. Another option would be to not park your bike where it's accessible to creeps. |

I think you worry too much. Could your friend have not tightened it enough the last time he checked his oil, and it simply vibrated out? As for getting home...the tank is not pressurized, so stuffing a rag in it would suffice. I've run my bikes with the sticks out many times after servicing, to make sure they had good flow, and never had a geyser. |

I just checked, the dipstick on my 1125R is nowhere near the same in size or threads as my 06 and 08 XB. I have no idea which bikes that they mean it fits when they say "all". |

Since they say the one for "all Buells 08+" is M31 threads, I'd guess it fits "all Buell 1125s". Not much metric stuff on XBs... Looks like nice kit, cheaper than a keyless gas-cap... Z |

Here, in Canada, when we have nothing to do and the hockey season is over, there are only two games left. The first is stealing each other's dipsticks. The second is seeing if Americans fall for our stories. |

Safety wire has slowly destroyed the OEM plastic one... I might actually be interested in one for that purpose. |

I'm thinking same thing dugger. Not worried about theft but looks cool and will resist the cutting action of safety wire. |

"There are always those who go around stealing people's oil cap. " Are there? |

> Are there? With street bikes, I'm always shocked what people consider "OK" to do. I've walked out of Target to see a mom having plopped her kid up on my bike. I asked her how she would feel if I just open the door and sat in her car. |

How did it make you feel? I mean, I think I'd have over-reacted quickly. The nerve of some people, freaking ridiculous |

I HAVE gotten in peoples cars. "Excuse me, which car is yours?" Hop in, and do the old high school trick - fan on high, wipers on, stereo cranked, tilt wheel all the way down, seat slid all the way front, reclined all the way back...learned how to pull all that off in less than 5 seconds unless the seat is power. Either that, or I saw a guy on my S2 at the dealer one day. "Wow man, that's a gorgeous S2, are you looking to trade it in?". He never came back, as far as I remember. All his buddies saw it and were laughing hard enough to pee themselves. |

I've safety wired mine for years on many bikes. How do you mess the cap up...? I've never had the wire do anything bad to my cheap little plastic caps/covers....! MIke |

> How do you mess the cap up...? In my case, the wire is slowly rubbing out the hole. (yes, that sounds dirty.) I get mine 'tight', so there's a tightening force on the cap. Over a lot of time and many oil changes, it's starting to cut through the plastic cap. It's not like it's a critical thing, I could get just a new plastic cap. But, that Rizoma thing does look cool |

it's a m18 (metric) thread and there is no such cap from rizoma. btw. the oil drain threads are m18 and m12 in case you need new screws or this very intelligent part from stahlbus.de: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QlvfwFiu9w |
