They look exactly like S2 standard bars...but with more rise. I'll try to get photos tonight of a T I'm rebuilding for a friend...but putting the T next to my S2, visually...I can't tell the difference. |

I had read that they were 2 inches higher & 2 further back. The rise on the S2 bars is about 5 inches, total length of the tube part of the bars is about 17 inches. I dont know maybe on the early ones there was no differences. I may have to buy a set of stock bars & cut the tube off & weld a new longer one on it, then have it rechromed. |

That 2" and 2" sounds about right . . . if I could find the right box I could dig out the catalogs and drawings. Better news is that the guy who'd know off the top of his head . . . . as of two weeks ago . . . is "back with the band". :-) |

Nice...I spoke with Jim earlier in the week, and he said there were "quite a lot" of familiar faces back at ET I need to get some free time. Ride up there, hang out a bit, buy Kim and her hubby (and whoever else is in the mood) a Spotted Cow or two, and just...absorb. 2010 was the last time I was up, and that's entirely too long ago! And now that I've re-read this thread, I need to find my camera and go get photos in the garage... |

I forget what model (FXR?) they used...but from what I've heard, they were simply sectioned HD bars, welded to the collars. Perhaps someone like Court or 1313 could chime in on what the donor bars were....? |

There are three different bars used on S2/S2T models. The lowest were used on very early S2 models shipped into July of 1994 - which were a carry-over from the later RS/RSS Buells. The S2s we received in late July of 1994 had the slightly longer upright length and the outboard end of the bare was also postiioned higher than the early bars. Part numbers for early S2 bars were listed as 54913-94Y / 54912-94Y - but I can see no evidence that the number was ever active and valid. Later handwritten notes I have show the "standard" S2 bars as 55913-94Y / 55912-94Y which superseded to N0003.8SS / N0002.8SS. S@T bars were listed as 55932-94Y / 55931-94Y and a handwritten note that states the handlebar "kit" was 55899-94Y. Hopefully I'm successful in attaching the photos of the three different bars. I've been buying S2 parts for a while - hopefully the photo will load.

Another note ... The early S2 bars ran the the switch wiring through the bars, and the later "standard" bars had a dimple which allowed the wiring to run on the outside - as did the tall Touring bars.

Nice. I never knew there was a third bar. Any way to get measurements, for comparison? Similar to what I posted above, bottom of the cuff to where a switch housing would be (or, some same-point on all three bars for compare/contrast). Neat stuff. |

Wasn't there a recalled bar? The way they were welded onto the bracket.... |

I just bought a set but they are the lowest of the 3 bars made for the S2, Im going to have a machinest friend make a 4 inch piece of 1 inch turned down 1 inch on each end driven 1 inch into each end of the bars and heliarc it together at the bottom straight section. Ill then clean it up & have it rechromed or powder coated |

Glad you were able to work something out. I have a NOS set of tall bars but would have to ask a small fortune for them, don't like doing that to a fellow BadWebber. When I seriously need the money I'll put them on that auction site. Hope your fix helps you to keep on riding, I don't know what I'm gonna do when the day comes I have to make the decision to keep riding or hang it up, I guess I'll face that day when it comes... |

Mtkawboy: My S2 came with the lowest bars. I thought they were painful because they had to be turned almost straight out to clear the tank shell. I raised (slid them up) 5/16" and then I could rotate them back more because that little bit of height allowed additional clearance because of the tank shell slope. The bars were then very comfortable - for me. It's up to you if you want try that "non-recommended" bar position. If you truly have a set of the early low bars - please contact me before you modify them. Thanks |
