looking at a 08 Uly. Wasn't really looking for one, but one came up. Only 1800 miles and asking $6800. Was looking at used bmw gs bikes, but all are way more money with way more miles. What would you look for? I mean with the mileage it's almost new, although that's a lot of sitting in the last 4 years. |

Most of the stuff that broke on mine broke in the first year. Look the clutch cable over where it goes around the front of the engine. The original 2008 cable stay things looked like springs and they were prone to break. Mine broke at 750 miles and burnt up against the exhaust. The dealership that replaced the cable told me that it was routed in "a stupid way" and it was under a lot of tension. He put the replacement in so that it was not tight against that springy thing. The upgraded part looks like a square sheetmetal box surrounding the cable. Looks like it would stop a bullet Other things that broke before my two year warranty was over: rear bearings at 16000 (full of water) drive belt at 15000 clutch bearing due to water getting in the primary at 12000 I think. Water getting into the primary is caused by the clutch cable's boot funneling rain and road splatter in. Added a ziptie to the top of the rubber dingus = no further water intrusion. If you know this stuff going in, you can avoid downtime by going over the bike in less than an hour. The rear wheel bearing thing is real and was finally addressed with the 2010 wheel design. Do I regret buying my bike at $12300? No way! |

Thanks for the reply. Always scared to be buying someone's problem. I'm not as mechanical as I should be. Time for a course at the local college I think. Rear bearings seem to be a common problem. Expensive fix? I am planning on talking to the local HD dealer and ask about service and parts etc. |

Check this section out, it covers the most common issues you may encounter. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/442053.html?1238017122 Being a low mileage bike, it may have issues from sitting and limited use, like fouled plugs and milky primary chain fluid. (Both are regular maintenance replacements anyway).

Yea, I wouldn't count much on support from a HD dealer in Canada. American Sport Bike and Erik Buell Racing will be your main sources of parts and accessories. |
