the front exhaust strap just broke. is there an alternative solution out there to replace it with other than ordering one from the dealer or americansportbike? i am looking to get it fixed in the next day or two. not looking for a quick fix either. | ||

I got the commonly referenced ones from the marine supply store.. I think it was deep blue marine or something. Information is here on badweb if you spend enough time searching. Don't bother though. While the strap *has* held up, it is visibly less beefy than the factory part. Maybe they are both "good enough", but I don't see any good reason to take the risk if you don't have too. Al has them, and EBR stocks them now also (cheaply!). | ||

I used some beefy metal straps I got from Home Depot. Used a couple just to be sure. | ||

I tried all kinds of stuff... The stock ones seem to be the strongest and if you're breaking front straps it's because it's something isn't mounted right. I tend to try to let everything settle in before I tighten them. I do that by getting everything in the right place (make sure the "cross bolt" that holds the front mount to the engine is "tight") and kinda snugging up the strap, then I start the bike and let everything kinda vibrate into place, then tighten the front strap. I then warm up the bike and then rev it a bit to really let it all vibrate together and check the torque on the strap. Do NOT ever tighten it. Once you learn how to do it right you won't break straps at all. | ||

I just installed one of these: http://www.jmsonline.net/catalog/product/view/id/7 0011/ It worked fine, but was a little big ... I had to tighten it almost to the end of the threads. I ordered two, because they were so cheap, the shipping cost more than the two clamps. |
