I saw on e-bay some time ago a guy that made a 3 wheeler blast, 2 wheels on the front, using a yamaha raptor quad front end parts, but thats the most i know off, in italy there was also something similar done with a ducati, but that just was a video. There is this project from harley, but i'm sure some where in this web page there must be some more ideas, or info i saw in the past: http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2011/08/03/harle y-davidson-penster-tilting-reverse-trike/ |

Wow, Pat, sorry to hear about your loss. Was it an accident or illness? Are you getting good rehab? I wish you the very best and admire your spunk and attitude. Please keep us posted on your project. |

I saw a kit at a show one time that you attach your bike to the kit without modifications to the bike. don't know who it was, but here are some links http://www.mtcvoyager.com/ http://www.triggtrikekits.com/ But none I saw on my search has BUELL listed. Wonder if it would be more cost efficient to sell the Uly and buy a trike already done. |

You may find a trike to your liking, but for my money, I would build a sidecar rig. Not sure how easy that will be to do given the type of frame the XB has. But I think the XB would make a good tug. I had a BMW /6 with a California Companion chair. Obviously, those older bikes had cradle frames to which you could easily bolt a subframe. And the are a lot of ugly sidecars out there. Not sure which ones will look good with a Uly. I'd start by looking over the sidecar.com site and asking questions on their forum. I have some very minor paralysis in my left leg. I w thinking at one point that I would end up on three wheels. The one thing that interests me besides sidecars are the Piaggio MP3s. There are other leaning three-wheelers in the pipeline, I think. Maybe one of them will strike your fancy. I would stay away from the CanAm Spyder. It is dangerous. I was hired to ride and test a pre-production model many years ago. They refined the steering before production started, but it still takes a fair amount of athleticism to ride it aggressively in corners...it wants to throw you off! Best of luck, Bill |

hi bill, you are right on the sidecar.i have run one before and loved it.havent ouite figured out the mounting on a uly.it would need a complete tube frame below the eng. pat |

I would think doing a three wheeler would be easier than a hack. Personally I'd rather have a hack. Buying a bike already set up would be the way to go. Having a Ulysses with a hack would definitely be a one of a kind though. I believe there used to be a leaning type sidecar produced called a flexicar. If you wanted to go that route. Either way get ready to open your wallet. |

I'd call around to the car manufacturers and see if one has been done. I'd hate to spend the money on the first one. bb |

I am no mech engineer but my first thought in my twisted head was to obtain a 2nd Uly,.. and somehow mount them together using the 2nd uly frame, rear wheel, seat etc. as the sidecar. I don't know. |

Pat- here's another wild idea for you. A friend of mine saw a Honda RC-51 at a track day a few years ago ridden by a guy who couldn't use his legs at all. He had what amounted to retractable "training wheels" on the back. They were mounted off of the tail section, and pivoted back and up once the bike was underway. IIRC the wheels were very small (maybe 3 inches in diameter) and the struts they were mounted from appeared to be maybe 1 inch diameter tubing. My buddy saw the rider go in and out of the pits several times; he'd lower the wheels as he came to a stop. Otherwise, he was tearing up the track just like the rest of them. I don't imagine this setup would work too well for off-roading, but on pavement it would be fine. If you're interested I'll see if I can get copies of his photos. |

Think I saw something like this in a bike magazine (AMA?), but think it would be a much better option (cheaper too) than trying to adapt a sidecar to the Uly frame. Nothing against sidecars or trikes, but personally I'd do this before either of those... www.landinggear.com No affiliation, no experience or real knowledge with the product, just glad to hear you're committed to continue riding. . . |

hi pnwuly and hughlysses .i have spoken to the owner of legup landingear. they dont have a kit for the uly but he thinks between the two of us with pics and the internet we can make the brackets to mount up a system that will keep me riding on two wheels above 6 mph.this is great news for me.as soon as i get out of this rehab center we will get started.will keep you all posted on progress. thx again guys. the badweb help means a lot. pat |

Pat - Sounds great; since the rear portion of the swingarm is not a part of the oil reservoir, should be easy enough to attach the outriggers. Noted a few of the shops were in Washington State, so with luck, not too much drama to get it done. Best of luck. |

Good call Hugh! My father and I dreamed up that idea 30 years ago but never did anything with it. When I saw an ad for the "landinggear" I was kicking myself!! I think that would be a great idea for you Pat! I hope you guys can figure it out! |
