I have '03 Blast with under 3,000 miles (might tell you how often it was used!) that I bought last year. Here's my issue:
-starts up fine, but engine is extremely fast at first (you can tell from the sound and how it feels while sitting on it)
-after letting it run idle for a few minutes it slows WAY down, starts to really "thump", and if not given some throttle, it stalls out
-after letting off the throttle, even when riding around, and then giving it throttle again, it starts popping back through the carb (you can tell from where the sound is coming and the quick push against your right leg as air box cover "kicks").

Info to take into consideration:
-I cleaned the carb already
-I drained the tank from the previous season, because it was just nasty
-put a new tank of gas in, plus just a little sea-foam
-just changed the oil. Last time I checked with the new oil it was slightly overfilled
-I also adjusted the idle speed screw (if that's what it's called) on the carburetor: it made the engine go longer without stalling, but it's still stalling all the same.
-It didn't really do this until I changed the oil in it

What do you think? Is it a fuel issue (maybe there's still some junk left in the tank)? Is it an oil issue - maybe I just need to drain a little out? ... Thanks ahead of time for your input.

God bless you!

An update: Sorry for the redundancy! I checked out some of the other threads here and found what I was looking for. I still have a question out of curiosity, though.

It was das Boot!! das Boot was no goot!! It had a giant crack/rip in it. I gave it a temporary fix: electrical tape, until I get down to the hardware store and buy a new das Boot. But that seems to have fixed it. The Blast is idling just fine now, and I'm glad it seems to have been as easy a fix as replacing that part.

So, that would make sense of why it was dying and, come to think of it, it really was struggling to get up to speed on the highway even when I opened up the throttle. However, I'm still confused as to why it would rev WAY too high immediately after start up. Why would excessive air getting in cause high revs at first? Thanks and God bless.

Installed the custom boot, but now I seem to be having the same problems I was facing with water in the gas tank. It idles, but when given some throttle it will almost stall out. If there is water in the tank, I'm assuming it's still getting in from the gas cap on top of the bike. This is after I already ordered a replacement o-ring and installed it. However, there is still some "wiggle room" clockwise and counter-clockwise after tightening the gas cap down. is there a slightly thicker o-ring out there; This stupid water in the tank problem is driving me nuts.

Also, I still don't know why I'm getting such a fast idle at start up. I would think that I need to adjust the fuel-air mixture on the carb, but it cools down after a couple minutes, making me think there's something going on at the initial start-up. Maybe I'm wrong?

So you have drained the gas and put fresh in but seemed to drive or let the bike sit out in the rain?? Drain it in a pan to verify that water is in there. Probably drain the float bowl also. O-rings are available at most hardware or parts stores. You could drain it in a gas can and let it settle out as the water will of course sit in the bottom.
